NFL insider uncovers Tom Brady’s real motive for Raiders stake

Tom Brady’s Role as a Minority Owner of the Las Vegas Raiders

Tom Brady, one of the most iconic figures in NFL history, has been a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders since October 2024. However, according to NFL analyst Michael Holley, there may be more to this arrangement than meets the eye.

Brady, who won seven Super Bowls during his playing career, was approved as a minority owner with the backing of billionaire Raiders owner Mark Davis. Davis had previously stated that Brady would have a “huge voice” in shaping the future of the franchise. Despite this, the team has struggled, finishing the last season with a dismal 3-14 record.

Holley, who covered Boston sports during the peak of Brady’s career with the New England Patriots, has suggested that Brady may not be as invested in the team as many believe. In an interview on Pro Football Talk with Mike Florio, Holley questioned whether Brady is truly committed to the role or if he is simply interested in the financial benefits.

“If you’ve got a bad franchise, you have to be there,” Holley said. “I think it’s a matter of this: does Tom Brady really want to do this or does he just want to be an owner of the Raiders? I think he just wants the money. I think he likes the money.”

The Shift in Focus

Holley also pointed out that Brady has improved as a broadcaster and may be more interested in pursuing opportunities in media. He suggested that Brady could be focusing on his newsletter, where he discusses topics like balance and personal development.

“[He] wants to see how high the value of the Raiders goes and maybe one day he’s in position to take over from Mark Davis. He’s got some sort of group that buys out Mark Davis and he’s an owner of the Raiders,” Holley added.

However, Holley emphasized that Brady does not seem interested in running football operations. “Does he want to run football operations? Clearly the answer is no. Not the Tom Brady that I saw for a generation in New England — one of the most competitive people I’ve seen.”

Holley described the type of involvement he expects from a player like Brady. “That Tom Brady would not sit back and look at a team win five of 28 games and say, ‘Well, I’ll let John handle it. I’ll let Clint handle it. And I’ll pop in, I’ll give a FaceTime every now and again with our quarterback to see if everything’s alright. And I’ll put the headsets on every now and then.’ That doesn’t sound like Tom Brady to me. That doesn’t sound like invested, football savant Tom Brady.”

Controversy Surrounding Brady’s Ownership

Brady’s arrival as a minority owner was expected to bring a significant boost to the Raiders. Instead, it has led to controversy within the league. The situation escalated when Brady was spotted in the coaching booth during a game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

This incident raised questions about a potential conflict of interest, especially considering Brady’s $375 million contract with Fox. When he acquired the minority stake, NFL officials imposed strict rules on his broadcasting career, including restrictions on attending production meetings or visiting other teams’ facilities.

Although Brady is now allowed to attend production meetings, his presence in the coaching booth sparked outrage among fans. Many believe it proves that he is not fully separating his roles with the franchise and Fox.

The debate over Brady’s involvement continues, with many wondering whether he is truly committed to the Raiders or if his focus remains on other ventures. As the team looks to rebuild, the question of what role Brady will play in its future remains unanswered.
