Introduction to the 2026 Suzuki eVitara
Suzuki has finally made its mark in the Australian electric vehicle (EV) market with the launch of the 2026 eVitara. This is the brand’s first electric car in Australia and marks a significant shift in its strategy, especially as it competes against Chinese EV manufacturers like BYD and Kia. The eVitara is available in multiple grades, including both front-wheel and all-wheel drive options, and comes with a range of features that cater to different buyer preferences.
Pricing and Pre-Order Offers
The pricing of the 2026 Suzuki eVitara is notably close to its petrol equivalent but still more expensive than some of its Chinese rivals. The entry-level eVitara Motion FWD is priced at $46,990 for the first 100 customers, while the Ultra AWD variant starts at $56,990. These pre-order prices are valid until 1 July 2026 or until the first 100 customers are fulfilled, whichever comes first.
Once these offers expire, the regular prices will increase to $49,990 for the Motion FWD and $58,990 for the Ultra AWD nationwide. In Queensland and northern New South Wales, where Suzuki cars are sold by a different distributor, the launch deals run until 31 July 2026, offering $2,000 off the regular prices. This means the Motion FWD will drop to $47,990, and the Ultra AWD to $56,990.
Additionally, there is an Ultra FWD grade available only in Queensland and northern NSW, priced at $52,990 for the first three months and $54,990 thereafter.
Comparison with Competitors
When compared to other EVs in the market, the eVitara is positioned as a premium option. For instance, the cheapest 2026 Suzuki eVitara is about $7,200 to $8,400 more expensive than the top-of-the-range BYD Atto 2 when the first examples arrive in showrooms mid-year. It is also approximately $11,700 to $13,230 dearer than the base-model BYD Atto 2.
In terms of performance, the eVitara’s entry-level model matches the Kia EV3 Air in most states. However, the Kia EV3 Air has a longer claimed range (436km vs 344km), more power, and a five-star safety rating compared to the eVitara’s four-star rating.
The Ultra AWD variant is similar in price to the BYD Sealion 7 Premium, which is slightly larger and offers more features and a longer range.
Features and Specifications
The 2026 Suzuki eVitara is designed to be a versatile and feature-rich SUV. It measures 4,275mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,635mm in height, with a 2,700mm wheelbase. This makes it broadly similar in size to a Mazda CX-3 petrol SUV or the BYD Atto 2 EV.
The Motion variant is powered by a 106kW/193Nm front electric motor and a 49kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a claimed 344km driving range in European WLTP testing. The Ultra AWD variant features dual motors—128kW front and 48kW rear—for a combined output of 135kW and 307Nm, with a 61kWh LFP battery offering a claimed 396km of WLTP range.
Charging and Standard Features
Charging times for the eVitara are competitive. Suzuki claims a 10 to 80 per cent charge can be achieved in about 45 minutes. An 11kW AC home charger is said to add the same amount of energy in four hours and 30 minutes for the Motion, or five hours and 30 minutes for the Ultra.
