Casio unveils budget-friendly retro AQ-240 watches in the US

Casio has introduced a fresh collection of vintage-inspired timepieces to the US market. The AQ-240E series, which initially appeared in online listings last month, is now officially available for purchase. This lineup includes three distinct models: the AQ240E-2A, AQ240E-4A, and AQ240E-7A2, each priced at $69.95.

Design Details

If the design seems familiar, it’s because these watches are an updated version of the older, well-loved AQ-230 line. Casio has retained the iconic rectangular shape but has softened the edges on the case and bezel, giving it a more rounded and less angular appearance.

The watches feature a standard stainless steel band with horizontal links, and the clasp is self-adjustable. This is a simple, unisex design that doesn’t draw too much attention.

The main distinction between the three new models lies in the dial colors and finishes. The AQ240E-2A boasts a light blue dial with a sunray finish that reflects light beautifully. The AQ240E-4A offers a matte pale orange dial that resembles a soft salmon pink. Lastly, the AQ240E-7A2 features a straightforward matte white dial. All three models share the same layout: analog hands for the current time, with a small digital screen at the six o’clock position handling additional functions.

Functionality

The small digital screen includes the usual Casio features, such as dual time tracking, a basic 1/100-second stopwatch, a daily alarm, an hourly chime, and a calendar.

Physically, this watch is notably small and lightweight, especially when compared to Casio’s bulkier G-Shock models. It measures 40.9 by 35.8 millimeters, is only 8.1mm thick, and weighs just 51 grams.

The case is made of chrome-plated resin rather than solid steel, and the crystal is resin glass, which is essentially plastic. It has basic water resistance, meaning it can withstand rain or washing your hands, but it should not be used for swimming. The watch runs on a standard SR920W watch battery, which Casio claims will last about three years.

Additional Releases

In related news, Casio has also launched a new stainless steel automatic watch with three dial options in the US. Additionally, they have released an $880 rainbow metal G-Shock watch.
