The Supermodel and the Controversial Rumour
Anok Yai, a prominent supermodel, has recently spoken out against a false rumour that claimed she urinated herself while wearing a dress at the 2024 Met Gala. The story, which gained attention in the Washington Post, detailed how some guests at the annual fashion event managed to use the bathroom while wearing intricate outfits. One of the anecdotes shared by stylist Mickey Freeman involved an unnamed model who wore a “complex couture sheer mesh jumpsuit” to the event. Due to a zipper issue, the model had to be sewn into the outfit.
Freeman recalled that during the Met Gala dinner, the model was so overwhelmed by the event’s grandeur and excitement that she forgot about the zipper problem. This led to a tear in the gown, and as Freeman described, it also caused the model’s bladder to remind her of the situation.
The report suggested that Freeman did not name the model but claimed that through their research, they had determined that Anok Yai was the one who wore an outfit matching this description. In response, Yai took to Instagram to deny the allegations.
“I usually stay quiet and keep to myself,” Yai wrote. “But how dare you misalign my character and imply that I ripped my outfit and peed on myself during the Met Gala of 2024! Fact check next time! Are you crazy?!”

Freeman also addressed the issue, sharing a screenshot of the article and denying that the model he referred to was Yai. “Nope! It was not Queen @anokyai,” he wrote, tagging the model.
Yai, who is 28 years old, is one of the most sought-after supermodels globally. In 2018, she made history by becoming the first Black model to open the Prada runway show since 1997, when Naomi Campbell launched the show.
Last year, Yai opened up about her health struggles, revealing on her social media that she had been diagnosed with a congenital defect. She shared clips of herself in a hospital bed, captioning the post: “For the past year I’ve been dealing with this silent battle. I incidentally found out I had a congenital defect overworking my heart and slowly destroying my lungs.”

Yai was among many celebrities who attended last week’s 2026 Met Gala, which was controversially sponsored by Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sánchez Bezos. She wore a custom Balenciaga gown inspired by the weeping statues of Sicily. The theme of the evening was “Fashion Is Art,” with attendees dressing in outfits inspired by famous works of art throughout history.
