A New Era for Aston Villa
Aston Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, has made it clear that winning trophies is not just a goal but a necessity for the club. Following their 3-0 victory over Freiburg in the Europa League final held in Istanbul, Emery expressed his desire to continue the success and build on this achievement.
The match started with a strong first half, where Villa displayed their determination. The breakthrough came when Youri Tielemans scored a stunning volley from Morgan Rogers’ cross, following a clever short corner routine just four minutes before halftime. This goal set the tone for the rest of the game.
In the first-half stoppage time, Villa extended their lead with another moment of brilliance. Emi Buendia curled in a beautiful shot from outside the box, showcasing his technical skills. Morgan Rogers then sealed the victory in the second half, helping Villa secure their first trophy in 30 years.
Emery has transformed Aston Villa from a team fighting for survival in the Premier League to European champions since he took charge in November 2022. His achievements have solidified his place in the club’s history, and he is eager to add more trophies to his collection.
He said: “Of course, the ambition of the club is important, and how we did the process makes sense. With this trophy, we are showing our development as well.”

Emery’s dream upon arriving at Villa was to compete in Europe and win trophies. He acknowledged that this was the first of many, highlighting the importance of the experiences gained from previous matches, such as the semi-final.
“It makes sense with this club because after 1982, this club won the European Cup. Achieving this one makes us so happy and proud of the way we are working, but we are not going to stop,” he added.
Despite adding a fifth European crown to his collection, Emery still feels he is not the “king” of the competition. He emphasized the importance of the clubs, supporters, and history that have contributed to his success.
“I am really proud and grateful for competing in Europe, and through the clubs, supporters, and history like Villarreal and Sevilla, I am thankful for them. Without them, I am not being successful in this competition. This is the reason I am not feeling the king of this competition; I am feeling thankful. We are the king together, and of course, I have my responsibility as a coach to get it.”

Villa dominated the match, securing a convincing 3-0 victory. However, Emery admitted that he never considered his side as favorites for the tie.
“To win is difficult, and to play a final is very difficult. How they beat teams before in the semi-final, they deserved to be here. They are a good team with a good coach. The teams are here because they deserve it. In the hotel, we were speaking, and we did not think we were favorites for this,” he said.
