A New Chapter for Alessandro Circati
Fresh off a successful season with his Italian top-flight club Parma, Socceroos star Alessandro Circati is now focused on achieving his FIFA World Cup dream. The 22-year-old centre-back has joined the Socceroos’ pre-World Cup training camp in Florida after completing his 2025-26 Serie A commitments in Parma’s 1-0 weekend win over Sassuolo.
Parma’s second season back in Italy’s top division saw Circati play a key role in the team’s success. The club secured 45 points, finishing 13th and safely avoiding relegation by 11 points. Circati expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance.
“We did well this year,” he said. “Our objective was to stay safe and stay in the league next (season). We did better than that. We were safe with five games to go, mathematically. Overall, I’d say we had a positive second year (back) in Serie A.”
Despite his achievements with Parma, Circati knows his work isn’t over. He is now preparing for the Socceroos’ World Cup campaign, which will begin on June 14 (AEDT) with a Group D clash against Turkey in Vancouver.

“It’s so close. It’s what I’ve been working for. It would make me feel like I’ve achieved something that I’m working for, a dream of mine,” he said. “To be able to be in this position, to be able to possibly go to (World Cup), would make my younger self very proud. I’m not content with where I am, but I think it (World Cup selection) is a nice objective to be able to accomplish.”
Socceroos coach Tony Popovic is set to announce his 26-man World Cup squad following Australia’s friendly match against Mexico on Sunday (AEST) at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Currently, there are 29 players in camp, meaning three will miss out on the World Cup.
“The squad hasn’t been selected, so the boys are all doing their best to try getting in the squad,” Circati said. “(It will) be even better to play in another iconic stadium (against Mexico).”
In addition to the friendly against Mexico, the Socceroos will face Switzerland in a match on June 7 (AEST) in San Diego before their World Cup battle with Turkey.
Preparing for the Big Stage
Circati’s journey from Parma to the Socceroos’ World Cup squad highlights the dedication required to reach the pinnacle of international football. His performance in Serie A has not gone unnoticed, and his focus now is on proving himself on the global stage.
The upcoming matches against Mexico and Switzerland are crucial for Circati and his teammates. These friendly games provide an opportunity to fine-tune strategies and build team cohesion ahead of the World Cup.
For Circati, the World Cup represents more than just a tournament; it is a culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice. He is determined to make the most of this opportunity and hopes to inspire the next generation of Australian footballers.
As the Socceroos continue their preparations, fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the start of the World Cup. With a strong squad and a passionate fan base, Australia is ready to make its mark on the global stage.
Circati’s story is one of perseverance and determination. From his early days in Australian football to his current position as a key player for Parma, he has consistently shown the qualities needed to succeed at the highest level. As the World Cup approaches, all eyes will be on him to see if he can fulfill his dream.
