Focus on Adaptability and Team Unity
As India Women prepare for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, the team has been placing a strong emphasis on adaptability and a collective mindset. Jemimah Rodrigues, a key player in the squad, highlighted that the team is currently engaged in a three-match T20I series against England Women. This series serves as an important platform for the players to experiment with different combinations and roles within the team.
Rodrigues has been playing a crucial role in this process, showcasing her versatility by batting in various positions over the past few months. During the T20I series against Australia and South Africa, she batted at No. 3, while in the first two matches against England, she took up the roles of No. 4 and No. 5 respectively. The right-handed batter expressed her comfort in playing anywhere in the batting order and emphasized her willingness to take on any role that benefits the team.
“I think I’m comfortable at all positions. In the end, it is important for me to have clarity. And when I have clarity about a certain role, I know I can go out there and deliver. Now is the time where we have a few more games to experiment about what’s the best combination that’s working for the team,” said Rodrigues.
A Valuable Addition: Yastika Bhatia
One of the most positive developments for the Indian team has been the return of Yastika Bhatia. Rodrigues praised Bhatia’s comeback, calling her presence a significant boost for the squad. She noted that the ongoing series against England is providing Bhatia with essential match practice and helping her regain her rhythm after a long period away from the international stage.
Rodrigues also commended Bhatia’s resilience and determination, highlighting the hard work she has put into returning to the international scene following an extended absence.
“Yastika was not with us lately because of her injury. So this is the only game time that she’s also getting. For us to have her here is a great advantage. We saw what she did in the first game, the way she batted. To come out after injury and do such a thing, it takes a lot of character,” said Rodrigues.
Building a Stronger Team
The focus on adaptability and team unity is part of a broader strategy to build a stronger and more versatile squad ahead of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. By experimenting with different lineups and roles, the team aims to identify the best possible combinations that can perform under pressure.
This approach not only helps in developing individual skills but also fosters a sense of collaboration among the players. As the team continues to play against top-tier opposition like England, they are gaining valuable experience that will be crucial in future tournaments.
With key players like Rodrigues and Bhatia contributing significantly, the Indian Women’s team is showing signs of a well-rounded and determined side ready to face the challenges ahead. Their current series against England is not just about winning matches but also about preparing for the high-stakes environment of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
