Sometimes I log on to the internet dot com and just know that I’m about to cause a ruckus.
Perhaps it’s a meme roundup about John Travolta’s beret collection that really gets the divas talking. Maybe it’s ‘blonde man’ discourse or me hating Jurassic World: Dominion (some of you were real mad about that one).
The topics remain juicy today as we unpack the latest breaking news story to come across my desk: A new actor has been cast to portray young Hercule Poirot. And let me tell you, he’s handsome as hell.
Now, I know — from discussing this topic at length in the office this week — that my opinion is divisive. Whacky enough to cause colleague-on-colleague feuding.
Because some people think I’m out of my mind and #HotPoirot already exists and some other people have never even heard of Poirot, an issue of its own deeply disturbing nature. But we don’t have time to unpack that right now.

We’ve had the iconic David Suchet in Agatha Christie’s Poirot. There was Peter Ustinov in six different films. And John Malkovich in The ABC Murders. We’ve had Alfred Molina, Albert Finney and Kenneth Branagh in different renditions of Murder On The Orient Express.
We’ve had many a Poirot — beloved divas to varying degrees — but we’ve never crossed over into the dreamy depths we’re about to. No one has ever tapped the buzzy cultural zeitgeist of ‘cosy murder meets handsome man’ quite like this new TV series is about to.
Edward Bluemel has been cast as young Hercule.
People with taste will remember him from the incredible Prime Video series My Lady Jane. Others may know him from Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, Killing Eve, A Discovery Of Witches or Sex Education.

The BBC and BritBox have announced that Edward will star as Agatha Christie’s iconic Belgian detective in a new drama series called Hercule — produced by Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited for the BBC and BritBox.
With six episodes, it’s going to be an “intimate study” — I certainly hope so — of Hercule the man. Charting three of the most celebrated Poirot stories, the series will look at his friendship with Captain Arthur Hastings, his encounters with James Yapp, and more classic moments.
“I feel very lucky to have been trusted with such an iconic character who has been played by so many great actors,” Edward said. “I can’t wait to continue Hercule’s legacy.”
And I can’t wait for you to do that, too, Edward.
As a card-carrying member of the ‘fangirl’ universe, I simply can’t wait because this series will be good, the buzz of the fandom will be even more exhilarating, and the TikTok edits? Well, I see a viral post or two in this show’s future. The more unhinged the better.
Sorry, Young Sherlock Holmes, you’ve been replaced by another detective diva in a period accurate costume. A new bombshell has entered the villa.
Stay tuned for more updates on when and where to watch this. I can assure you, I’ll be monitoring the situation closely.
