2027 Flying Spur: Sporty S Facelift for Ultra-Luxe Sedan

Bentley Flying Spur Gets a Significant Upgrade, Welcomes Back the Sporty ‘S’ Model

Bentley has rolled out a substantial refresh for its flagship luxury sedan, the Flying Spur, with the headline act being the return of the performance-oriented ‘S’ designation and a suite of distinctive design enhancements. Set to commence production in the United Kingdom in September, the updated 2027 Bentley Flying Spur showcases a refined aesthetic both inside and out. A notable departure is the adoption of a single headlight design, a first for a Bentley sedan since 1962, marking a significant evolution in the marque’s styling language. Alongside these visual updates, the sporty ‘S’ variant re-enters the limousine’s lineup, boasting a range of exclusive appointments designed to appeal to the more performance-minded clientele.

The Flying Spur S: A Performance Powerhouse

The 2027 Flying Spur S is powered by a potent iteration of Bentley’s High Performance Hybrid powertrain. This sophisticated system, a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo plug-in hybrid (PHEV), delivers an impressive 500kW of power and a colossal 930Nm of torque. This represents a significant boost of 95kW over its predecessor, underscoring Bentley’s commitment to blending exhilarating performance with hybrid efficiency. The same advanced powertrain is also found in other celebrated models, including the related Continental and the Porsche Panamera, testament to its engineering prowess.

Bentley claims a brisk 0-100km/h sprint time of just 3.7 seconds for the Flying Spur S, with a formidable top speed of 307km/h (191mph). To translate this immense power to the road, the Bentley Performance Active Chassis comes as standard. This sophisticated system integrates a variable all-wheel-drive setup, twin-valve dampers for adaptive ride control, advanced torque vectoring for enhanced agility, and a 48-volt active anti-roll system. These components work in harmony to ensure the Flying Spur S’s prodigious torque is delivered with precision and control, offering a dynamic driving experience befitting a Bentley.

Distinctive Styling Cues for the ‘S’ Model

The Flying Spur S is immediately distinguishable from its siblings through a series of carefully curated styling elements. A key feature is the standard Blackline Specification, which replaces the traditional chrome brightwork with gloss black accents across the exterior. This includes black mirror caps, tinted matrix LED headlights, and darkened LED tail lights, all contributing to a more assertive and contemporary appearance. The darkened headlight units are further enhanced by Bentley’s ‘Precision’ detailing, a design feature previously reserved exclusively for the flagship Speed model, highlighting the ‘S’ variant’s elevated status.

Interior Craftsmanship and Customisation

Bentley’s dedication to artisanal craftsmanship is evident in the updated Flying Spur’s interior. The addition of the Flying Spur S brings the total number of available seat specifications to five, each meticulously crafted by hand. Bentley states that each seat variation requires a remarkable 12 hours of dedicated craftsmanship, offering buyers the choice between exquisite fluted or quilted inserts, allowing for unparalleled personalisation.

The Mulliner Virtuoso Collection: A Bespoke Experience

Further elevating the bespoke offering, the new Flying Spur introduces the ‘Virtuoso Collection’ by Bentley’s esteemed Mulliner coachbuilding division. This exclusive collection is intrinsically linked to the premium Naim for Mulliner optional audio system and features special interior specifications. A standout element of the Virtuoso Collection is the introduction of Champagne Gold detailing, described as “inspired by high-end musical craftsmanship,” adding a unique and luxurious touch.

Buyers opting for a Virtuoso Collection specification can select from three distinct themes: Soprano, Tenor, and Bass. Mulliner describes these themes as offering a spectrum of interior ambiances, ranging “from serene, light interiors to darker, more dramatic designs,” catering to a wide array of personal preferences. The opulent Champagne Gold detailing extends beyond the interior, gracing elements such as the winged badges, exhaust finishers, collection badges, and even the key fob, creating a cohesive and striking visual statement.

An Immersive Audio Experience

The Naim for Mulliner audio system, already renowned for its exceptional sound quality, has received further refinements for the Virtuoso Collection. Hailed as “Bentley’s most immersive audio experience to date,” this high-fidelity system features 21 speakers equipped with patented ‘M’ cones in the mid-range and tweeter units. Bentley highlights that this innovative speaker design facilitates an exceptionally linear frequency response with remarkably low distortion rates and superior sound dispersion, promising an unparalleled auditory journey for occupants. In the UK, this premium audio option commands an additional cost of £25,000 (approximately A$47,390) before taxes.

New Exterior Colour Option

Complementing the interior enhancements, the updated Bentley Flying Spur also gains a striking new exterior paint finish: Dark Teal. Described as “a stunning new mid-blue, metallic exterior paint, with hints of green, providing a contemporary, sophisticated, nature-inspired colour to the palette,” this new hue offers a fresh and elegant option for discerning buyers.

Bentley’s local division has been contacted for specific Australian market details. However, the global media release indicates that the new Flying Spur is available for order now, with the first deliveries anticipated to reach most markets in the fourth quarter of 2026 (October to December).
