Watch the Trailer for Practical Magic 2 with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock

The world is in for a magical treat as the long-awaited sequel to Practical Magic is officially on the way. Warner Bros. has confirmed that Practical Magic 2 will hit screens on September 18, 2026. This exciting news comes with the return of two of Hollywood’s most iconic stars: Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

Both actresses, who have since earned Best Actress in a Leading Role Oscars, originally played the Owens sisters, Sally and Gillian, in the 1998 cult classic. At CinemaCon 2026, they shared some insights into the upcoming film.

“We come to this place for magic,” said Nicole Kidman during a joint appearance with Sandra Bullock. She added details about the plot, mentioning “midnight margaritas, jumping off the roof, and also having our past catching up with us.” She described the film as “really, really fun” and expressed excitement about returning to the characters that fans have loved for years.

Sandra Bullock echoed her co-star’s sentiments, noting that the team had rebuilt the original house on the cliff. “We filled that house with many old and new characters that you’ll love and brought Alice Hoffman’s Book of Magic to life,” she said.

The official trailer has now been released, offering a glimpse into the story. It features the iconic song from the first film, a cup stirring itself, and scenes where the sisters explain their curse to Lee Pace, who has joined the cast.

“Everyone we love dies a really horrible death,” the sisters tell Lee Pace. “It’s not great for the Tinder bio.” This line has sparked fan speculation that the curse may not have been broken in the first movie. Additionally, Aidan Quinn, who played Sally’s love interest in the original, is not part of the cast, further fueling these theories.

The original film was based on Alice Hoffman’s book of the same name, which follows Sally and Gillian as they navigate their family’s curse: any man an Owens woman falls in love with dies. Based on Sandra’s comments, it seems that Practical Magic 2 will be an adaptation of The Book of Magic, where Sally and Gillian attempt to save the man Sally’s grown-up daughter loves from the curse.

Filming for Practical Magic 2 has already wrapped, and the production team includes Akiva Goldsman, who wrote the first film, and Denise Di Novi, who produced it. Both Sandra and Nicole are also producing the sequel.

In terms of the cast, both Nicole and Sandra will reprise their roles, along with Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, who play the sisters’ parents. However, there is some disappointment among fans as Evan Rachel Wood will not be returning as Kylie Owens, Sandra’s character’s elder daughter.

“I offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are recasting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters,” she wrote.

New additions to the cast include Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and Joey King. They are set to play the grown-up versions of Sally’s daughters, Kylie and Antonia, from the first movie. Other newcomers include Lee Pace, Solly McLeod, and Xolo Maridueña, though their roles remain undisclosed.

Aidan Quinn, who played Gary Hallet in the original film, will not be reprising his role.

The film is set for release on September 18, 2026. Until then, fans will be keeping their fingers crossed and hoping for a successful continuation of the beloved series.

For those in Australia looking to catch up on the original Practical Magic, it is available to stream on Prime Video and Stan.

If you’re interested in reading the book series, you can find Practical Magic, The Book of Magic, and Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman on Amazon, Booktopia, and Dymocks.
