Jeopardy! contestant’s 20-game streak targets huge prize

A Remarkable Streak on Jeopardy!

Jamie Ding, a law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey, has made history on the popular game show Jeopardy! by achieving a 20-game winning streak. This impressive feat not only marks the most consecutive wins in four years but also places him as the seventh highest in the show’s history.

Ding’s success has earned him a total of $572,600 in prize money, placing him sixth on Jeopardy’s all-time winnings list. His performance has also tied a notable record set by Ken Jennings, the show’s legendary host, during his 74-game streak in 2004. Ding matched this record by correctly answering 45 clues in a row during his third game.

As he prepares for Friday’s episode, Ding will face off against Xaque Williams, a writer from Knoxville, Tennessee, and Kathi Fitzgerald, an English teacher from Williamsburg, Virginia. Fans are already excited to see how far Ding can go in his next match.

Fan Reactions and Praise

Viewers have been overwhelmingly supportive of Ding’s performance, with many expressing their admiration on social media platforms like Reddit. One user wrote: “It’s strange or magical how Jamie’s score keeps creeping up and before you know it, it’s another runaway.” Another commented: “Jamie seems so calm. I’m getting anxious and obviously, I’m not even playing.”

The community has also celebrated Ding’s achievement, with one user saying: “Wow a 20-game winner. Amazing achievement.” Another added: “The king has dominated again.” A third person wrote: “A huge congrats to Jamie on winning 20 games! What an incredible feat.”

A Legacy of Excellence

Jamie Ding is following in the footsteps of other remarkable Jeopardy! contestants. Amy Schneider, a fan favorite, was the last contestant to win 20 or more games, achieving 40 victories in 2022. That same year, Mattea Roach won 23 games, while Cris Pannullo scored 21.

During Thursday’s game, Ding competed against Prithish David, a financial advisory consultant from Washington, D.C., and Alexandra Leith, a national account manager originally from Dedham, Massachusetts.

Final Jeopardy Clue

In the final Jeopardy round, the three contestants were presented with a clue in the “writers in residence” category. The clue asked: “In 1759 he purchased Ferney, the French home where he lived for two decades, largely because of its proximity to the Swiss border.”

Ding was the only contestant to answer correctly, identifying the writer as Voltaire. This correct response earned him an additional $827, bringing his total to $33,027 for the episode.
