Netflix cancels Millie Bobby Brown drama after actress quits over creative clash

Millie Bobby Brown’s Drama Project Shelves Due to Creative Differences

A new drama featuring Millie Bobby Brown has reportedly been scrapped due to the actress’s decision to step away from the project. The film, which was set to star Brown as US Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug, has now been shelved, according to recent reports.

Brown, 22, was expected to portray Strug, a member of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ – the women’s gymnastics team that made history by winning the United States’ first-ever gold medal in women’s gymnastics at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Despite Strug’s injury during the competition, the team managed to secure victory thanks to her final vault.

The biopic was scheduled to begin filming this summer, but sources have confirmed that the project is no longer moving forward. Gia Coppola was initially announced as the director, but she later stepped down and was replaced by Cate Shortland. The script for the film was being written by Ronnie Sandahl, though no further details have been released.

Deadline was the first to confirm the project in September last year, and it was reported this week that Brown left the production due to ‘creative differences’. The Daily Mail has reached out to Brown’s representative for further comment.

The Story of the Magnificent Seven

In 1996, the US Olympic women’s gymnastics team earned the nickname ‘Magnificent Seven’ after their remarkable performance at the Olympics. Their win marked the country’s first-ever gold medal in women’s gymnastics, with the team pulling ahead in the final moments thanks to Kerri Strug’s iconic vault.

During the final event of the competition, the vault, Dominique Moceanu failed to stick her landing, which cost the team a chance to secure the gold. This put the pressure on Strug, who was just 18 years old at the time.

Strug fell on her first attempt and heard her ankle snap during the awkward landing. She limped back to the start line, visibly injured. It was later discovered that she had torn two ligaments in her ankle.

Despite the pain, Strug was encouraged to go again in order to secure the gold for her team. She prepared herself for her final vault, sprinted down the runway, and sprung off the board using her injured ankle. Strug stuck her landing, winning gold, before hopping on one leg to ease the pressure on her injury.

A Historic Moment

Strug was historically carried off the floor and awarded her medal while wrapped up in a cast. Her performance not only secured the gold for the team but also turned her into an American hero. However, due to her ankle injury, she had to withdraw from the all-around singles event.

The story of the Magnificent Seven remains one of the most iconic in Olympic history. It showcases not only the skill and determination of the athletes but also the spirit of teamwork and resilience. Kerri Strug’s bravery and sacrifice became a symbol of perseverance, inspiring millions around the world.
