SALT LAKE CITY — The World Missions Society Church of God took another step in helping to address Utah’s critical blood shortage by hosting its 1,815th Worldwide Blood Drive on Sunday.
This event was held in collaboration with the American Red Cross and is part of a global effort to meet the rising demand for blood due to an aging population, global crises, and natural disasters. In Utah alone, hospital requests continue to exceed the available blood supplies nationwide.

The Church of God has been working to combat these shortages through regular blood drives, which are held at least once a year, particularly during Passover. Tad Evans, the Salt Lake City representative for the Church of God, mentioned that Sunday’s drive resulted in 61 donations, which can save up to 200 lives.
In its international campaign called “Worldwide Blood Drive to Give Life Through the Love of the Passover,” more than 380,000 patients have benefited from over 70,000 donors across 60 countries, according to the event’s press release.
A New Approach to Blood Donation
This year, the initiative is promoting Power Red donations, which allow donors to safely donate consecrated red blood cells during a single donation while returning their plasma and platelets. Evans explained that this method is especially beneficial for trauma patients.
“It’s our goal to help save the lives of many, just as Christ saved our life through his blood on the cross, we, too, want to have the opportunity to save people’s lives physically,” Evans said to ABC4.com.
Another event organizer, Sidney Rogers, emphasized that the donation process is simple. “For anyone who might be nervous, the process is super easy, and I definitely recommend,” she said mid-donation. “If you’re a first-time donor, especially give it a shot because you’ll see that it’s not as difficult or scary as you may think.”
The Importance of Blood Drives
Blood drives play a crucial role in ensuring that hospitals have enough supplies to treat patients in need. With the increasing demand for blood, community efforts like those led by the World Missions Society Church of God are essential. These drives not only provide vital resources but also foster a sense of unity and compassion among participants.
