The Dark Side of ‘Married At First Sight’ Revealed
The reality TV show “Married At First Sight” has been under intense scrutiny following allegations of inappropriate and harmful behavior by participants, including claims of sexual harassment and even rape. Among those coming forward is Amy Kenyon, a participant in the UK edition of the show, who has shared her own harrowing experiences.
A Disturbing Experience on Camera
Kenyon, who appeared on the 2024 season of MAFS UK, spoke openly about her time on the show, describing it as “very, very, very difficult.” She recounted feeling uncomfortable with her partner, Luke Debono, and the need for therapy due to the sexual harassment she experienced both on and off camera.
“Sexual harassment went on, and mine happened on camera. I just had to deal with it, and everybody was just laughing at it,” Kenyon said in an interview with The Sun. She described how she felt like a “creepy guy [she] would avoid at the bar” rather than someone she would approach, which made the experience even more distressing.
Uncomfortable Situations and Emotional Struggles
During their time together, Kenyon would use pillows as a barrier to keep Debono away from her, trying to convince herself that the unconventional nature of the social experiment was supposed to feel strange. However, she often questioned whether what was happening was right.
Debono, who is from Malta, made “very sexually explicit” remarks and “derogatory jokes” that left Kenyon feeling uncomfortable. She noted that he didn’t stop when she asked him to, and his behavior only worsened during their Bahamas honeymoon.
The Impact of Public Exposure
Kenyon alleged that contestants were encouraged to both have sex and talk about sex on the show, but she preferred to know someone for a few weeks first. Despite her requests, Debono continued to make inappropriate comments, even discussing their sex life in front of other participants and experts.
One particularly disturbing incident involved Debono telling Kenyon that he “wished the stool he was sitting on were her face.” These comments left Kenyon feeling humiliated and disgusted, especially since much of his alleged harassment wasn’t filmed.
Channel 4’s Response and Ongoing Review
In response to the allegations, Channel 4 issued a statement expressing sympathy for contributors who were distressed after taking part in the show. Chief Executive Priya Dogra emphasized the importance of contributor welfare and mentioned that an external review of welfare on MAFS UK was commissioned. This review aims to assess how issues raised at the time were handled and determine if changes are needed to further strengthen contributor welfare.

A Call for Better Safeguards
Kenyon, who praised Channel 4 for its thorough checks before the show, is now calling for 24-hour surveillance in the MAFS apartments should the show return for future series. She believes that while people can be vetted, there is always a risk of not truly knowing who someone is.

The Aftermath and Future
Despite the challenges, Kenyon believes she had a “lucky escape” from Debono, as he wasn’t permitted to return for the reunion show. According to reports, bosses removed him after his aggressive behavior shocked both cast and crew.
Debono, who recently celebrated his 33rd birthday on Instagram, continues to share snaps of his life and travels online. However, he was blocked by Kenyon after their time on the show. In a previous statement, Debono addressed fan backlash, stating that they only see a snippet of their time together and that both he and Kenyon have zero tolerance for negativity or hate.
