Carrie Bickmore has been hospitalised after sharing news that she will need to take a break from her radio career due to concerns about potential long-term damage to her voice.
The 45-year-old posted a photo from her hospital bed on Instagram, captioning it: “Ok voice… time to come back…🤞.”

The radio host appears to be either recovering from or preparing for surgery on her vocal cords. In a May episode of Carrie & Tommy, Bickmore revealed she had consulted an ear, nose and throat specialist who warned that her vocal cords were in “a very bad way.”
“My voice hasn’t been right for some time,” she said, sounding visibly hoarse. “Things are not good, so I’m going to have to take some time off work to get it fixed. If I don’t get it fixed now, they [vocal cords] will be permanently damaged, which will be very unfortunate for my job…”
Loren Barry took over hosting duties alongside Bickmore’s co-host Tommy Little while she was away.
Bickmore became emotional as she faced the reality of being away from work and potentially losing her voice altogether.
“I just don’t like letting people down and I don’t like letting myself down,” she said, her voice shaking. “I also really love my job and don’t want to be forced not to never do it again.”
“I’m taking a little bit of time off to get it fixed. I’m hoping that if I get onto it now, it will be a non-permanent thing.”
Tommy Little offered his full support, saying: “We just want you healthy and back to 100%, Carrie.”
This is not the first time this year that Bickmore has been hospitalised.
In April, she underwent surgery after a serious accident left her with a deep gash on her head and a damaged nerve.
“Looked like a crime scene,” Bickmore said, sharing a series of photos including one of her head wrapped in bandages. “Blood spurting from my head.”
She described the injury as “healing terribly” and mentioned that she was still experiencing pain, especially after someone accidentally dropped a suitcase on her head.
