Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Continued Success in IPL 2026
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally ended their long wait for an IPL trophy last year, and on Sunday evening in Ahmedabad, they managed to defend their title by winning IPL 2026. As the Rajat Patidar-led side celebrated with the trophy, one of the standout moments came from Australian power-hitter Tim David, who grabbed attention during the festivities with a light-hearted gesture.
In the final match, RCB’s bowling unit delivered when it mattered most. Rasikh Salam Dar was the star performer, taking 3/27 as Gujarat Titans were restricted to 155/8. During the chase, Virat Kohli once again showcased his class, remaining not out on 75 and guiding his team to another championship victory.
As Kohli played one of his trademark innings, Tim David kept the momentum going from the other end, especially after RCB faced a mid-overs wobble. Their 41-run partnership for the fifth wicket might not be remembered as one of the tournament’s most iconic combinations, but it proved crucial in determining the outcome of the match.
After RCB’s IPL 2026 triumph, Tim David had a cheeky moment with Champak, the AI-powered robot introduced by the BCCI. During the team’s trophy photos, David jokingly pretended to kick the robot, as if trying to spook it, adding a fun element to the celebrations.
Champak, the AI-driven mascot, was introduced as part of an effort to enhance fan engagement and broadcasting coverage. Fans chose the name “Champak” through an online poll held before the previous season, making it feel timely and relevant.
Since taking over as captain before IPL 2025, Rajat Patidar has transformed RCB’s fortunes significantly. His calm leadership combined with the strategic input from the coaching team has propelled the Bengaluru franchise into one of the league’s more stable teams in a short period.
Patidar not only ended RCB’s 18-year title drought but also led them to back-to-back IPL victories. This achievement places RCB among the most successful franchises in IPL history, right behind Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders. It’s hard to ignore their growing success.
Before RCB’s back-to-back triumphs, only Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians had managed to defend an IPL title. CSK did so in 2010 and 2011, while Mumbai Indians achieved the same feat in 2019 and 2020. Both franchises extended their congratulations to RCB upon joining this exclusive group. Interestingly, Kolkata Knight Riders had already secured two IPL titles within just three seasons.
With the next mega auction approaching before IPL 2028, RCB’s current core players—Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Krunal Pandya, Josh Hazlewood, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar—will have the opportunity to aim for something even greater. A third consecutive title is the target, though it remains a challenging goal.
No IPL team has ever won three straight championships. However, Oval Invincibles managed to achieve this feat in The Hundred by winning the tournament in 2023, 2024, and 2025. While such a run is still possible for Patidar and his teammates, the IPL presents a much steeper challenge due to its depth of competition.
With advanced cameras and sensors, Champak was introduced to enhance fan involvement and broadcasting coverage. Its primary role is to capture unique pitch-side views and angles that traditional cameras often miss. This innovation adds a new dimension to how fans experience the game, making it more immersive and engaging.
