As uncertainty surrounds Tom Hardy’s future on MobLand, the actor has reportedly chosen not to return for the third season of the series. The 48-year-old star portrays Harry De Souza, a street-smart fixer in the gang drama directed by Guy Ritchie. The show also features Dame Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, and Paddy Considine.
Before the release of season two, Hardy became the center of intense speculation, with reports suggesting he had been fired due to conflicts with producers, including showrunner Jez Butterworth and David Glasser. Later, insiders clarified that he had not been officially removed from the show, but his role was still under consideration. It was said that Hardy had been accused of delaying filming by refusing to leave his trailer, which reportedly caused frustration among his A-list co-stars.
Dame Mirren took to Instagram to post an image of Hardy with the caption “Love you now and always Helen,” which is considered the most direct response to the rumors from anyone involved in the production. Variety later reported that the door was not closed on Hardy’s return, stating that the team was “creatively working through” a plan to keep him on board for the next season, although it has not yet been officially confirmed.

In a recent development, Page Six claimed that the Venom star has decided to step back from the show after a challenging second season. The publication reported that major Hollywood names like Idris Elba and Colin Farrell were approached as potential replacements. According to the report, Hardy had requested scripts well in advance, but new showrunner Butterworth, who replaced Top Boy boss Ronan Bennett, struggled to deliver them. This led to cast members often learning their lines on the day of filming, causing delays and budget concerns for the studio.
An insider shared: “You have an A-plus writer who’s got a lot of power and who has a methodology of ‘I don’t know where this is going’ and then an A-plus actor who is used to knowing the entire arc of a character in a story. It was all very passive-aggressive and British. It wasn’t even a feud.”

If Hardy’s exit proves to be true, another insider told The Sun that reshoots for season two to explain his absence could cost millions. The source explained: “His role means they will have to alter the end of the second series, which has only just been made – and that will cost millions in extra time spent developing, filming and editing.”
The insider added: “It’s not clear if Tom will even return to film any new scenes, or whether the producers are just going to have to be incredibly creative in tying up the second series. And then they’ve got to start thinking about the overwhelming prospect of delivering series three.”
MobLand season one is currently available to stream on Paramount Plus. There is no official release date for season two.

Efforts to obtain comments from Tom Hardy’s representatives and Paramount Plus have not yet yielded a response.
