Insights into the Kyle and Jackie O Drama
Ben Fordham, a well-known radio host on 2GB’s Ben Fordham Live, has shared his thoughts on the recent drama surrounding the iconic radio duo Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson. He believes that signs of their partnership beginning to unravel were evident long before their on-air conflict.
Fordham recalls listening to the Kyle and Jackie O Show and hearing an exchange that made him think something was wrong in their relationship. He remembers a conversation from about a year and a half ago where Sandilands told Henderson, “You’re not listening to me anymore.” In response, Henderson said, “Yeah, you’re probably right, ‘cause I’ve heard it all before, Kyle.”
He noted that these types of interactions made him think, “It stopped being a bit fun.” Another instance he recalled involved Sandilands asking Henderson a very personal question about whether she had done the act before. Henderson responded by saying, “I think I’ve given up enough of my personal life on this show, Kyle.”
Fordham explained what he thinks happened between the pair over the years. He believes that Henderson grew as a human being, becoming interested in self-help, meditation, yoga, and astrology. He praised her for losing weight and looking great. However, he suggests that Sandilands may have struggled with seeing her develop while he remained stuck in his own place.
Last month, Fordham commented on the critical “mistake” that Sandilands made, which led to the fallout between him and Henderson. He told Behind the Mic with Mike E host Michael Etheridge that the conversation between the radio legends should never have played out on air. Fordham suggested that if Sandilands had spoken to Henderson off air about his frustration with her interest in astrology, Henderson might have responded differently.
During their on-air row on February 20, Henderson read from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s astrology birth chart when things escalated. Sandilands criticized her “obsession” with astrology, calling it “almost unworkable” and adding, “You’re off with the fairies with this s–t, it’s mental.”
Following the argument, Henderson’s contract with the Australian Radio Network (ARN) was terminated because she could no longer work with Sandilands. Sandilands was suspended for two weeks to address accusations of misconduct by the radio station.
Now, both Henderson and Sandilands have filed wrongful termination lawsuits against ARN, which came before the federal court on Friday. Henderson chose not to attend the management hearing, where client attendance is not mandatory. Instead, her close friend and manager Gemma O’Neill observed the proceedings.
While Sandilands played to the cameras, exactly as he did at his first court appearance on March 27, Henderson’s absence highlighted her shift toward a more private, post-KIIS life.
