Why isn’t Lungi Ngidi in DC vs RCB?

Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the Delhi Capitals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore match in the Indian Premier League 2026 on April 27. The South African fast bowler sustained a head and neck injury during the previous game between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, leading to his hospitalization. Although he has since been discharged from the medical facility, he is still not fit to take the field for Match 39 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Ngidi has been a key performer for Delhi Capitals this season, and his absence will be particularly felt in the middle and death overs at the high-scoring venue. His ability to vary his pace, especially with slower deliveries, has consistently troubled opposing batters.

Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel confirmed that Lungi Ngidi is still experiencing concussion symptoms and will not be available for the upcoming match against RCB.

“We have made three changes, as you know what happened with Lungi Ngidi in the previous game. He is down with a concussion, so we have added Jamieson and Chameera to the playing XI. Parakh is also playing,” Patel said.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru skipper Rajat Patidar won the toss and chose to bowl first against the host franchise to capitalize on the favorable batting conditions in the second innings.

“We are bowling first as it is a chasing ground. We will try to put them under pressure in the second innings. We have done well in the first half of the tournament, and it is important to maintain the momentum. Different players have performed for us in different matches. We are here to win,” Patidar stated.

Axar Patel emphasized the importance of avoiding mistakes in order to secure victories.

“We have batted and bowled well, but not capitalizing on small moments is impacting us. We will have to perform well as a team and execute our plans,” he said.

Impact of Ngidi’s Absence

Ngidi’s exclusion from the lineup presents a significant challenge for Delhi Capitals. His experience and skill set have been crucial in both the middle and death overs, where his variations have often disrupted the rhythm of opposing teams. With his absence, the team will need to rely more heavily on other bowlers such as Dushmantha Chameera and Kyle Jamieson to maintain control over the game.

The decision to replace Ngidi with Jamieson and Chameera, along with the inclusion of Sahil Parakh, shows the team’s commitment to adapting and maintaining their competitive edge. Axar Patel has expressed confidence in the new lineup, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and execution.

Strategy for the Match

Bengaluru’s decision to bowl first is a strategic move aimed at setting the tone for the game. By taking advantage of the good batting conditions, they hope to put Delhi Capitals under pressure early on. This approach aligns with their recent performances, where they have shown consistency in both batting and bowling departments.

Patidar highlighted the importance of maintaining momentum and ensuring that every player contributes to the team’s success. He also acknowledged the role of different players in various matches, reinforcing the idea that collective effort is key to achieving victory.

For Delhi Capitals, the focus will be on executing their plans effectively and making the most of their opportunities. With the right combination of players and strategies, they aim to overcome the challenges posed by Ngidi’s absence and secure a strong performance in the upcoming match.
