Ex-Blue’s 18-goal heroics for local side

A Return to the Football Field

It’s been a long time since Travis Cloke graced the AFL arena, with his last appearance coming in 2017. However, the former Collingwood star proved he still has what it takes after kicking an impressive 18-goal haul for his local side on Saturday. This performance showcased not only his enduring talent but also his passion for the game.

A Busy Day of Football

Cloke’s day at the football started early as he took on the role of coach for the Coates Talent League side Oakleigh Chargers. He led the team against the Sydney Swans Academy at the Kennedy Community Centre, which serves as Hawthorn’s home base. The match took place in Dingley, and although the Chargers suffered a 40-point defeat, Cloke didn’t have much time to dwell on the loss.

After the morning match, Cloke made the journey to Yarra Glen Recreation Reserve, where he was set to play his third game of the season in the Outer East League’s Division One football. The drive from the previous location took approximately 68 minutes, or 54 minutes if he opted to pay the toll. Upon arrival, he was just 10 minutes away from the first ‘throw up’ at 2:20 pm.

A Strong Performance

Yarra Glen, affectionately known as the River Pigs, had recently come off their first defeat of the season. In that match, they scored only 30 points, with Cloke, wearing the number 99 guernsey, managing to kick one goal. However, on this particular Saturday, the River Pigs showed a marked improvement in their offensive strategy.

The team faced off against Powelltown, and Cloke played a pivotal role in their victory. His performance was nothing short of spectacular, as he managed to kick 18 goals, bringing his season tally to an impressive 24. This achievement highlighted his continued dominance on the field, even after a long absence from the AFL scene.

A Testament to Dedication

Cloke’s ability to perform at such a high level is a testament to his dedication and love for the game. Despite the challenges of balancing coaching duties with playing, he managed to deliver a standout performance. His commitment to both roles showcases his deep connection to football and his desire to contribute to the sport in various capacities.

Looking Ahead

With his recent success, it’s clear that Cloke’s passion for football remains strong. His performance on Saturday not only earned him recognition but also inspired those around him. As the season progresses, fans will be eager to see how he continues to perform and whether he can maintain this level of excellence throughout the rest of the campaign.

Cloke’s journey serves as a reminder that the love for the game can transcend professional boundaries and continue to thrive at every level. His story is one of perseverance, dedication, and a true love for football that continues to shine through.
