Carlton’s Interim Coach Steps Back from Full-Time Role
Carlton’s interim coach, Josh Fraser, has decided not to pursue the full-time coaching position following Michael Voss’ departure. This decision comes after Fraser expressed that he feels unprepared for the role at this stage in his career. However, he emphasized that his current position as an interim coach is crucial for the club’s development.
“I’m ambitious, and I want to be a senior coach at some point,” Fraser stated at Ikon Park on Friday. “As we stand here right now, I probably don’t think I’m quite ready. But what this opportunity does give me is a chance to jump in the driver’s seat, learn a lot about myself, and hopefully at the end of it be better placed.”
Fraser also highlighted his commitment to helping the club move forward. “This is not my job. I’m an interim coach, but I’ve got a job to do, and that is help the club.” His focus remains on supporting the team during this transitional period.
Bulldogs Coach Nominates Potential Candidates
Meanwhile, Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has suggested four names who he believes are capable of taking over as the next head coach for Carlton. These include both current and former assistants, showcasing a range of potential candidates.
The Blues are expected to canvass the AFL community for their next head coach, with several premiership winners available for the role. Among them are Adam Simpson and John Longmire, who have previously led teams to success.

Beveridge mentioned that he sees potential in several assistant coaches who have worked under him. He specifically highlighted Daniel Giansiracusa (Hawthorn), Ash Hansen (Carlton), Brendon Lade, and Daniel Pratt (both Bulldogs) as capable individuals. “Over the journey we’ve had assistant coaches come and go, whether it’s Daniel Giansiracusa, Steven King’s just got a job at Melbourne, Ash Hansen’s already at Carlton – all those guys are ready for a chance,” he said.

Brendon Lade and Daniel Pratt were particularly praised by Beveridge. “Brendan Lade is right up there and he’s done all the yards. He’s a big, friendly giant, he’s as capable and as ready as anyone, and Pratty’s in that boat as well.” Beveridge added that he would support these candidates if they were chosen for the role.
Understanding the Impact of Coaching Changes
Beveridge also shared his thoughts on Michael Voss’ departure. “It’s always sad when a coach finishes up in these circumstances,” he said. Voss has been described as resilient and stoic, representing his football club and family with great strength. Beveridge expressed admiration for Voss’ approach and wished him well in his future endeavors.
The Bulldogs are set to face a challenging game against Carlton on Saturday night. Josh Fraser will lead the Blues at Marvel Stadium, and Beveridge acknowledges the potential impact of a new coach on a team’s performance. “We can’t do anything about their revs and how they motivate themselves going into this game,” he said. “Whether they do anything differently – that will be the thing that will be intriguing.”
