A Moment of Impact
Jason Holder, the all-rounder for Gujarat Titans, brought a surge of energy to the field during the IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Dharamsala. His dismissal of Devdutt Padikkal was a pivotal moment that seemed to ignite the entire atmosphere. It felt like the game’s momentum shifted right after that wicket.
Holder managed to remove both Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal in the same spell, playing a crucial role in Gujarat Titans’ comeback in what turned out to be a playoff-style game. Following Padikkal’s dismissal, the West Indies player celebrated with immense enthusiasm, and his teammates quickly joined in.
The Key Wicket
The critical wicket came in the ninth over. Holder bowled a back-of-a-length ball outside off stump. Padikkal attempted to guide it toward third man but only managed a faint edge behind the stumps. Jos Buttler took the catch safely behind the wicket, and the umpire immediately gave the batter out. Padikkal opted for a review, hoping there might be no edge, but UltraEdge clearly showed a spike as the ball passed the bat, confirming the decision.
This wicket provided a significant boost for Gujarat Titans during the middle overs when RCB were aiming to maintain a high run rate. Holder’s celebration was full of passion, with loud shouts and fist pumps, highlighting the importance of the wicket for GT at that stage of the match.
Padikkal had played a useful innings of 30 runs off 19 balls, hitting five boundaries. He confidently attacked the bowlers, helping RCB maintain a strong run rate until Holder halted his progress.
RCB’s Strong Performance
Even after losing three wickets, Royal Challengers Bengaluru continued to score at a solid rate, maintaining around 10 runs per over. By the end of the 14th over, RCB reached 140/3, with Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya at the crease.
Virat Kohli had earlier contributed 43 runs from 25 balls, including five fours and one six. Holder then dismissed him as well. Venkatesh Iyer gave RCB a sharp start, scoring 19 off seven balls, but Kagiso Rabada removed him with a brilliant running catch from Shubman Gill.
Patidar remained unbeaten on 21 from 13 balls, while Krunal Pandya was batting on 25 off 20 deliveries. RCB still had finishers like Jitesh Sharma and Tim David waiting in the dugout, ready to capitalize if the situation opened up.
Bowlers’ Contributions
Among the Gujarat Titans’ bowlers, Holder stood out by taking two wickets in four overs. Rashid Khan also performed well, conceding only eight runs in his two overs.
Kagiso Rabada picked up one wicket but leaked runs and was relatively expensive. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna also gave away some runs during the powerplay and middle overs.
