Tragic Shooting in Missouri Parking Lot
A 45-year-old woman from Missouri, who had recently overcome a battle with cancer, was tragically killed when a gunman opened fire in a parking lot. Amy Coon, a grandmother who had successfully beaten Hodgkin lymphoma, was fatally shot after Allen Price, 27, allegedly used a rifle in a grocery store parking lot.
The incident occurred on Memorial Day at a Cosentino’s Price Chopper. Shots were fired shortly before 4:30 pm, according to the Kansas City Star. A second victim, a 16-year-old employee retrieving shopping carts for the store, was also wounded and is currently in intensive care. The identity of the injured individual has not been disclosed.
Two armed bystanders intervened during the shooting and managed to detain Price, likely preventing further harm. Pleasant Hill Police Chief Tommy Wright confirmed this information, stating that Price turned the gun on himself and shot himself in the head but survived. He is now in police custody at a local hospital.
Price had previously been released on bond in a separate case where he faced charges of harassing family members and threatening to shoot them.

Price has now been charged with first-degree murder, two counts of assault or attempted assault, and three counts of armed criminal action. According to charging documents obtained by the outlet, the firearm used was a Winchester .243-caliber rifle. Police found three empty shell casings near Price, one inside the rifle and 20 more rounds allegedly discovered on him.
Court documents also revealed concerns about Price’s mental health and noted records showing he admitted to having a shotgun at the time of his 2025 arrest. However, Police Chief Wright does not believe the prior incident is connected to the shooting.
Tributes for Amy Coon
Tributes have poured in for the 45-year-old, with family and friends sharing photos and expressing their grief over the tragedy. The grandmother’s obituary highlighted her simple life and love for small joys. “Amy lived a simple life and found joy in the little things,” it read.

“Her best friend and best pup, Levi, made sure she was never alone and later her kitten, French Fry, joined the family.” Coon had a passion for arts and crafts and gardening, as mentioned in the memorial.
“Amy was the mother hen to everyone in her life. She cared deeply for her loved ones. Even through her years of cancer treatment, she showed up for her family and was the absolute best Grammy,” the obituary stated.
Community Response
The community has come together to support the victims and their families. Local residents and businesses have expressed their condolences and shared messages of hope and healing. Many have taken to social media to remember Amy and honor her memory.
The tragic event has sparked discussions about public safety and the need for better mental health resources. Community leaders are calling for increased awareness and support systems to prevent such incidents in the future.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the need for ongoing dialogue about gun violence and mental health.
