Grandma’s Cancer Victory Ends in Tragic Parking Lot Shooting

Tragedy Strikes as Missouri Woman, Recent Cancer Survivor, Killed in Shooting

A tragic incident occurred in Missouri when a woman who had recently overcome a battle with cancer was fatally shot during a shooting at a grocery store parking lot. Amy Coon, 45, a devoted grandmother and survivor of Hodgkin lymphoma, lost her life in the incident. The shooting took place on Memorial Day at a Cosentino’s Price Chopper in Kansas City.

The event unfolded shortly before 4:30 pm when gunfire erupted in the parking lot. A second victim, a 16-year-old employee of the store, was also injured while retrieving shopping carts. The young individual has not been publicly identified and remains in intensive care.

Bystanders Step In to Stop the Shooter

Two armed bystanders intervened during the shooting, successfully detaining the suspect, Allen Price, 27, which likely prevented further harm. According to Pleasant Hill Police Chief Tommy Wright, Price turned the gun on himself, shooting in the head but surviving the attempt. He is now in police custody at a local hospital.

Price had previously been released on bond in a separate case where he faced charges of harassing family members and threatening to shoot them. He has since been charged with first-degree murder, two counts of assault or attempted assault, and three counts of armed criminal action.

Weapons and Evidence Recovered

Charging documents obtained by the media revealed that the firearm used in the shooting was a Winchester .243-caliber rifle. Police found three empty shell casings near Price, one of which was located inside the rifle. Additionally, 20 more rounds were allegedly discovered on him.

A Life Filled with Love and Joy

Tributes have poured in for Amy Coon, with family and friends sharing heartfelt messages and photos to honor her memory. Her obituary highlighted the simple yet meaningful life she led, emphasizing her love for small joys. “Amy lived a simple life and found joy in the little things,” it read.

“She had a best friend and best pup, Levi, who made sure she was never alone. Later, her kitten, French Fry, joined the family.” Coon was known for her passion for arts and crafts and gardening, as noted in the memorial.

“Amy was the mother hen to everyone in her life. She cared deeply for her loved ones. Even through her years of cancer treatment, she showed up for her family and was the absolute best Grammy,” the obituary stated.

Mental Health Concerns and Legal History

Court documents also revealed some concerning aspects of Price’s past, including records showing he admitted to having a shotgun at the time of his 2025 arrest. However, Police Chief Wright does not believe this prior incident is connected to the shooting.
