The iconic Sagrada Família church in Spain has inspired the largest Lego set ever created, featuring a 24-inch-tall model composed of an impressive 12,060 Lego bricks. This new set surpasses previous records, with the former largest being a world map that had 11,695 pieces and was eventually discontinued. The Eiffel Tower model from 2022, which features 10,001 pieces, is another notable set, while other models such as the Titanic, Colosseum, and Death Star each contain around 9,000 pieces.
The new Lego Architecture Sagrada Família set captures the breathtaking details of the basilica in Barcelona, 100 years after the passing of its architect, Antoni Gaudí. Construction on the actual basilica began in 1882 and was consecrated by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010, with the final structural work completed in February this year. Although it will not be fully completed until approximately 2034, the Lego version offers a fascinating way to experience the architecture without the 152-year build time.
Recreating the complex blend of Gothic and Art Nouveau styles in Lego form was no small task, which is why the model required so many pieces. Building the Lego version follows the same process as constructing the real basilica, starting with the foundational apse and crypt before moving on to the façades and six towers.

The set includes a detailed interior and Lego versions of the stained glass windows, ensuring that both the exterior and interior are fully represented. The exterior boasts numerous intricate details, such as sculptures, a glass cross at the top of the building, and additional elements like trees to add a sense of scale.
Lego previously avoided creating models based on religious buildings, meaning you won’t find a church in their City sets aimed at children. However, the company has relaxed this rule for its Architecture line, which targets adults. Previous sets in this line include Notre-Dame de Paris and the Taj Mahal, which, although technically a mausoleum, is still a remarkable architectural feat.

The finished model measures 47cm wide, 62cm high, and 39cm deep, requiring ample space for display. While it is not cheap, costing £649.99, it is significantly more affordable than some similarly sized licensed sets, such as the Star Wars Death Star.
The Sagrada Família set, numbered 21065, will be available for purchase starting November 1, making it a likely candidate for a major Christmas gift. However, pre-orders can already be placed through the Lego website.
