Sir Kenny Dalglish Shares His Battle with Cancer
Sir Kenny Dalglish, the legendary footballer and manager, has revealed that he is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. The 75-year-old Liverpool icon accidentally shared his condition in a now-deleted social media post, which led to the news becoming public. Despite this, Dalglish expressed his preference for keeping his diagnosis private, stating that it was not his intention to make the matter public.
Dalglish’s initial post, which was quickly removed, sparked speculation about how the information came to light. Some suggested that he mistakenly posted a photo of a hospital appointment letter, but no evidence has been confirmed by the Daily Mail. In a statement, Dalglish clarified:
“As my inadvertent social media post has indicated, I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well. Ideally, this would have remained private because that’s the way it should be, but my useless technology skills have forced my hand. Obviously, I did not mean to make this matter public, so I would appreciate it if the privacy of my family and myself are respected.”
He also thanked the medical staff who have shown incredible care and discretion, not just for him but for many others.

A Family Affair
Dalglish has been married to his wife, Marina, since 1974, and together they have four children: Kelly Cates, Paul, Lynsey, and Lauren. Kelly, the Match Of The Day presenter, and Paul, a former footballer and manager, have both publicly supported their father.
Paul took to Instagram to express his support, writing:
“My dad, my best mate, my hero. You are s*** on social media but you are the strongest man I know, you got this. I love you.”
Marina, who had breast cancer in 2003, started the Marina Dalglish Appeal in 2005. The couple has been active supporters of cancer charities over the years, raising millions for those affected by the disease.
Staying Active and Supported
Despite his health challenges, Dalglish has continued to attend football matches and support his beloved Scotland. He was recently seen alongside Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes during a friendly against Ivory Coast at the Hill Dickinson stadium. He is also a passionate horse racing fan and attended Royal Ascot.
Dalglish made an appearance on television last week with his daughter Kelly Cates as part of Andy Robertson’s farewell documentary, where he displayed his characteristic sense of humor.

A Legacy of Excellence
Dalglish is widely regarded as one of the greatest figures in the history of Liverpool, Celtic, and Scotland. As a player, he won four league titles with Celtic before adding six more with Liverpool, along with three European Cups in the 1970s and 1980s.
His career at Liverpool spanned from 1977 to 1990, during which he made 515 appearances and scored 172 goals. He later transitioned into management, leading Liverpool to three league titles and guiding Blackburn to their only Premier League crown.

A Remarkable Career
Here is a summary of Dalglish’s impressive career:
- As a player:
