Swift Crashes Toy Story 5 Premiere: “Not on the Guest List!”

Taylor Swift’s Surprise Splash at Toy Story 5 Premiere

Los Angeles was buzzing with an unexpected guest at the world premiere of Toy Story 5. Global superstar Taylor Swift made a jaw-dropping appearance on the red carpet, a move that caught everyone, from fans to the film’s cast, completely off guard. Swift, known for her meticulously planned appearances, was reportedly not on the official guest list, adding an extra layer of intrigue to her presence.

Arriving as one of the final stars to grace the carpet, Swift opted for a striking off-the-shoulder embellished mini dress by Erdem. Her unexpected arrival wasn’t just for show; she also took to the stage later in the evening for a surprise performance, cementing her significant involvement with the beloved franchise.

According to reports circulating online, the press were initially “barred” from a designated area to facilitate Swift’s reunion with the Toy Story 5 cast. Videos circulating on social media captured heartwarming moments of Swift posing for photos with key cast members, including Joan Cusack.

This high-profile appearance comes on the heels of the release of Swift’s latest original song, “I Knew It, I Knew You.” Penned and produced specifically for the Toy Story 5 soundtrack, the track has ignited speculation that Swift could be a serious contender for an Oscar for Best Original Song. Should she clinch the award, it would bring her tantalisingly close to achieving EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) status.

Following the screening of the film, Swift treated the audience to a live debut of her new track. Adding to the star-studded performance, she also performed a heartfelt duet of the classic “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” alongside the legendary Randy Newman himself.

Addressing the captivated audience, Swift expressed her deep connection to the Toy Story universe. “It means the world to me to be a small part of the universe of these films,” she shared. “‘Toy Story 5’ is my favourite of all the ‘Toy Storys.’ I’m so lucky I get to be a part of this.”

Swift joined an impressive lineup of Toy Story 5 cast members at the premiere, including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Greta Lee, and Joan Cusack. Tom Hanks, who has voiced the iconic Woody since the franchise’s inception in 1995, sported a casual, neutral-toned ensemble, a subtle nod to his character.

In a candid conversation with Variety, Hanks revealed the extent of the secrecy surrounding Swift’s musical contribution. The veteran actor admitted he was unaware of Swift’s original song until mere hours before its public release. “It was top secret,” Hanks stated at the premiere. “We did not know until, literally, when the moment came. They ushered us into a soundproof room and said, ‘Tonight at 9pm the true end titles song is going to drop, and it’s by Taylor Swift.’” He added with a chuckle, “And I was like, ‘You guys kept this from us all?’ And we saw the movie without [the song], we had some dummy thing in there.”

Meanwhile, Tim Allen, the voice of Buzz Lightyear, opted for a simple blue suit and embraced his character’s persona, striking several Buzz Lightyear-esque poses for the cameras on the red carpet.

Swift’s captivating soundtrack addition was released on June 5, just two weeks before the film’s theatrical debut.

The song has been described as a harmonious blend of her country roots and a fresh musical exploration. The release was accompanied by an endearing video shared by Swift on Instagram, featuring a young her dressed as the beloved character Jessie from the films. “Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time,” Swift explained in her Instagram post. “Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a Toy Story kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond.”
