Lance Morris’s Return to Fast Bowling in Western Australia
Western Australia is setting its sights on a summer filled with excitement, particularly for fast bowler Lance Morris. After a challenging period marked by back stress issues, Morris has made a successful return to the bowling crease, and the state’s new coach, Beau Casson, is optimistic about his future.
Morris faced significant setbacks in his career, including major surgery last August, which ruled him out of the entire 2025-26 summer. This operation not only affected his availability but also impacted his chances of securing a Cricket Australia contract. However, the determination and resilience of Morris have not gone unnoticed.

Casson expressed his enthusiasm for Morris’s return, stating, “It’s exciting, we’re seeing him bowl cricket balls at the moment.” He highlighted Morris’s eagerness to get back into the nets and his passion for fast bowling. “When he’s fit and firing, what he’s born to do: he loves bowling fast,” Casson added.
Morris possesses impressive physical attributes and is currently in a heavy gym phase. His dedication to training is evident, as he is working closely with the team’s bowling coach, Tim Macdonald. “He’s been really diligent in his physical prep and technical prep,” Casson noted.
Prior to his surgery, Morris was capable of swinging the ball at speeds close to 150km/h, making him a formidable presence on the field. With his return, there are hopes that he will be able to contribute significantly to the team’s performance this season.
Preparing for the Domestic Season
As the domestic season approaches, there will be an Australia A tour at the beginning of the season. A healthy Morris would undoubtedly be among the fast bowlers considered for deployment in the subcontinent. Casson emphasized the importance of easing Morris back into the game with caution.
“We all have our goals for Lance and Lance has his goals, which is the most important piece of that puzzle,” he said. “We want him to be fit and firing ready to go for the first game, that’s what our aim is.”
If Morris is fit and available for selection, he will be part of the discussions for both the Aussie A team and potentially higher levels. “We’d like to see him get a good run at playing some consistent cricket,” Casson explained. “Historically, after two or three games, he starts to really hit his straps.”
Future Goals and Aspirations
Casson acknowledged the learnings from the past few years, including the setbacks Morris has faced. “We can follow a similar road map but also put in some of the learnings we’ve had over the last couple of years with the setbacks he’s had as well.”
The ultimate goal for Morris is to don the baggy black cap and represent Australia in Test cricket. “That’s why he’s working so hard at the moment,” Casson concluded.

With the support of his coach and the team, Morris is on track to make a strong comeback. His journey serves as an inspiration to many, highlighting the importance of perseverance and dedication in the face of adversity. As the summer approaches, fans and teammates alike are eagerly anticipating the impact Morris will have on the field.
