Norway’s Return to the World Cup: A New Era Begins
Norway made a strong return to the FIFA World Cup after 28 years with a commanding victory over Iraq in their opening match. The game, held in Foxborough near Boston, saw Erling Haaland, the Manchester City striker, shine brightly with two goals before halftime. Norway’s return to the World Cup is the result of years of development. The Norwegian Football Federation established the National Team School in 2013 to nurture young talent. Alumni of this program include Odegaard, Haaland, and others who have become key players.
Norway dominated their qualifying campaign, scoring 37 goals with 16 from Haaland. They beat Italy twice, 3-0 and 4-1. While the outcome of the tournament remains uncertain, Norway is determined to make their presence in international tournaments a regular occurrence rather than a rare one.
Even in the final moments of the victory, Haaland showed his hunger for more, urging his teammates to push forward for a set-piece opportunity that led to their fourth goal.
