Aussie cricket star Tim David suspended and fined after third incident in two months

Tim David Faces Suspension and Fine After IPL Final Incident

Australian cricket star Tim David has been handed a suspension and fined 50 per cent of his match fee following an incident during the IPL final. The incident involved David throwing an ice bag in the direction of on-field umpire Nitin Menon during the first innings.

This was not the first time David had faced disciplinary action this season. He picked up his fifth demerit point of the season, which triggered a one-match suspension under IPL rules. The suspension will see him miss RCB’s first game of the next IPL season or the first game of the franchise he represents in IPL 2027.

The IPL statement explained that David breached Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Team Official, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a Match. David did not challenge the demerit, and it added to his total of five points for the season.

David’s other demerits came earlier in the season. His first set of demerit points were received when he refused to hand the ball to the umpires on two separate occasions in a game against the Mumbai Indians. Another charge came against the same team in a different match after “using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting” at the Wankhede.

Despite the suspension, David will not be too affected as he has already won his second straight IPL title. The victory was a significant achievement for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with Josh Hazlewood playing a key role in the team’s success.

Josh Hazlewood Wins Back-to-Back IPL Titles

Hazlewood was one of the stars for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, taking 2-39 to help lead the Challengers’ bowling attack and keep the Gujarat Titans to 160. His performance throughout the tournament was impressive, with 15 wickets taken across his campaign.

Speaking after the victory, Hazlewood praised his team’s efforts, saying, “That was right up there,” of his third IPL title. “Someone always stepped up when they needed to. We had like 10 different man-of-the-matches, so amazing depth in the squad. Anyone who came in did a great job.”

Virat Kohli was another standout performer, scoring 75 off 42 balls to help RCB reach their modest target of 161 with five wickets in hand. Kohli finished the tournament with 675 runs at an incredible average of 56.25.

David contributed with the bat, scoring 24 off 17 before getting caught behind. He finished the campaign with 305 runs, batting down the order, at a strike-rate of 188.

Standout Performances in the Tournament

One of the most incredible stories of the tournament was that of 15-year-old Rajasthan batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. He finished with the ‘orange cap’ with a total of 776 runs, showcasing his talent on the international stage.

The IPL 2026 season saw some remarkable performances from both established and emerging players. The competition highlighted the depth of talent in Indian cricket and provided exciting moments for fans around the world.

As the season comes to an end, the focus will now shift to the upcoming IPL 2027, where teams will look to build on their successes and address any areas for improvement. With new challenges and opportunities ahead, the future of the tournament looks promising.
