If you are a Jeep owner, this is something you must pay attention to. According to multiple reports, the carmaker is recalling 1.3 million vehicles due to a high risk of fire. As such, Jeep is seriously urging buyers to park their vehicles outside their houses until the matter is resolved.
The affected models are said to be 2021-25 Wranglers and Gladiator pickups, with an issue in the electrical connection in the wiring of the electric hydraulic power steering. Jeep says that this could lead to materials in the system overheating, which would, in turn, cause a fire. However, it clarified that this could happen in rare cases.
According to the recall report issued by the National Highway Transport Safety Administration, the affected vehicles may suffer from a power steering malfunction or a Service Power Steering diagnostic trouble code appearing.
The recall report also states that between May 2023 and April 2024, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and
Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) investigated cases of Wrangler and Gladiator models catching fire originating from the electric hydraulic power steering section. The investigation was closed due to a low rate of occurrence.
However, it was reopened in August 2024, after receiving an increasing number of identical fire cases. In parallel, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had also begun investigating cases of engine compartment fires on 2021-2023 Wrangler and Gladiator models.
The manufacturing error was finally discovered in 2025, and after multiple attempts at recreating the problem in its internal tests, it was indeed confirmed that a loose electrical connection would melt it, eventually leading to a fire.
It was found that the EHPSP header was made outside the required standards. This means that the forces needed to connect it were higher than they should be.
When the insertion forces are too high, it can cause the terminals to spread apart, making it less likely that the EHPSP electrical connector will fully connect to the EHPSP header. Both of these issues can result in poor electrical connections and increased resistance.
While Jeep customers need to exercise caution with their Wranglers and Gladiators for now, there are a few things to look forward to from the brand in the near future.
Jeep’s Wrangler Scrambler Is Coming Back
Jeep is among the four core brands set by Stellantis as part of its new strategy. At its recent Investor Day event, the car maker revealed several plans set to unfold soon. Jeep’s new halo car will be the revived Wrangler Scrambler.
Even under the covers of the teaser image, the familiar current-gen Wrangler design can be seen in a two-door pickup form. However, we can expect it to look beefier and get elements that make it look even tougher.
While many reports suggest the Scrambler could feature an independent suspension setup However, what we do know is that the Scrambler will get an SRT version with a V8 under the hood.
Additionally, the standard Wrangler will continue seeing updates over the next few years, while the Grand Cherokee, the Grand Cherokee L, and the Grand Wagoneer are up for mild updates.
