Cameron Diaz Shines in New Film Shoot in New York City
Cameron Diaz, the 53-year-old American actress, was spotted on Saturday in New York City, filming a dramatic scene for her upcoming film The Sham. This marked a departure from her usual glamorous look as she appeared to be chasing her co-star, Stephen Merchant, down a street.
The duo are set to play unlikely lovers in the film. Diaz has previously praised her British co-star, who is known for his work on The Office in the UK. The movie will see Stephen portray a British hotel worker in an upscale New York hotel who needs a wife to maintain public appearances. He then teams up with a struggling comedian, played by Diaz, who needs money to fund her health insurance. Their fake marriage starts as a business transaction but evolves into an unexpected romance.
During the shoot, Diaz wore a quirky ensemble that included a bulldog graphic print T-shirt styled as a dress, paired with vibrant, tight-fitting leggings. She layered a fluffy beige cardigan over her shoulders and completed the look with green Ugg boots. She also accessorized with a white and black polka dot bandana headband and hoop earrings.
Stephen Merchant, 51, cut a smart figure in a burgundy blazer paired with a navy waistcoat and grey trousers. He strode ahead of Diaz along the sidewalk during the scene. Later in the day, Diaz switched into a cream knit hoodie and grey jeans while relaxing on a set of stairs with her lines in hand. She later changed once again, opting for a burgundy top and the same beige cardigan while filming a scene in which she took out the trash from her apartment.
Diaz appeared in great spirits as she paused to chat with members of the production team. For her final look of the day, she looked stylish in a red blazer paired with a white graphic T-shirt and light-blue denim jeans as she left what appeared to be a comedy club.
Last week, Diaz shared news of her collaboration with Stephen on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She praised her co-star, saying, “I’m doing a movie with Stephen Merchant, so great, gosh he is the best. I’m doing a film here with him. I don’t know the name of it yet.”
Stephen echoed her sentiment by sharing a clip on his TikTok, writing: “Thanks so much for the love @Jimmy Fallon and @Cameron Diaz. Having a great time making this movie in glorious NYC, can’t wait to share it.”
Diaz took a break from Hollywood in 2014 after the film Annie, but returned just last year to star alongside Jamie Foxx in Back in Action. One of her next movies is Shrek 5, set for release in 2027. The film will see Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Diaz reprising their roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, respectively, while Zendaya joins the cast as Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, Felicia.
Diaz will also star in Reenactment with Benicio del Toro. While plot details for the film are being kept under wraps, reports suggest it will soon enter production in LA. She is also set to appear in the Netflix movie Bad Day, having signed on to feature in the streaming giant’s project from director Jake Szymanski, who helmed the acclaimed comedy series Jury Duty.
The movie centres on a single mother fighting to keep one small promise to her daughter on the worst day of her life. It has been described as a comedic version of Joel Schumacher’s 1993 film Falling Down, in which Michael Douglas plays a man who reaches his breaking point while trying to reach his daughter’s birthday party.
