St Kilda Faces Injury Challenges After Strong Win

The most concerning injury occurred earlier in the day during a corresponding VFL match when St Kilda’s spearhead, Max King, suffered a hamstring injury in his second game back from a long period on the sidelines. This setback has added to the challenges the team is currently facing.
In a post-game presser, Ross Lyon expressed hope that King’s injury would not be too severe. He mentioned the unexpected nature of the player losses, which had a destabilizing effect on the team.
“I wasn’t having an easy day with the phone calls in the morning about players going down,” Lyon said. “That was a bit unexpected, so it unsettles you a little bit.”
Lyon also noted that he observed King performing well during the VFL match. “They will scan it tomorrow, and it looks like something on the lower end,” he added. “I did speak about it during the week, as there was a risk after such a long layoff. We’re trying to manage that soft tissue. He will be disappointed, but he has overcome bigger things.”
Another player, Paddy Dow, appeared to show signs of a possible concussion in the second quarter. Despite these challenges, Lyon praised the performance of the VFL team, highlighting their hard work and resilience.
Before his injury, King’s performance in the VFL match showed promise. The 25-year-old managed to score 2.1 in the early stages of the game. The incident happened in the second quarter when King took a mark leading out in front inside 50. He seemed to pull up short and instead of kicking for goal, he passed to a teammate before leaving the ground in a slow jog.
