Eiza González steps into her ‘WAG’ spotlight with Grigor Dimitrov

Eiza González Embraces Role as Supportive Partner to Tennis Star Grigor Dimitrov

Eiza González is fully embracing her role as the supportive partner of tennis star Grigor Dimitrov, expressing her commitment to stand by him throughout the tennis season. Speaking to a media outlet at the Los Angeles premiere of I Love Boosters on May 13, González opened up about her relationship with Dimitrov, whom she was first linked to in April 2025 after the pair were photographed holding hands in Madrid.

Weeks later, the actress confirmed the relationship publicly with an Instagram birthday tribute to the Bulgarian athlete, calling him her “absolutely favorite human.” Now, González says she has fully embraced being what she jokingly calls a “WAG,” a term often used to describe the wives and girlfriends of professional athletes.

“I’m a WAG now … He makes fun of me. I’m like, ‘Don’t call me a WAG,’ but I guess I am,” González told the outlet. “I’m so happy to share his success, and I’m there for him no matter what. I’m so proud of him.”

The actress also praised Dimitrov’s personality and dedication to his sport. “He’s such a hardworking man and ultimately what I think is the best about him is his spirit. He’s such a good human being. So I just am so grateful for him and I will be there no matter what. If I have had two minutes of sleep, it doesn’t matter. I’ll be there for him.”

González said she plans to travel to Paris to support Dimitrov during the clay court season and ahead of the French Open, which begins May 18. She revealed, “I’m heading to Paris next week. So I’m very excited. I like the clay court season. Doesn’t get better than that. And then I’m very excited for Wimbledon.”

Supporting Grigor Dimitrov and Promoting Her New Film

While supporting Grigor Dimitrov during the tennis season, Eiza González is also promoting her upcoming film I Love Boosters, directed by Boots Riley. The movie stars González alongside Keke Palmer, Taylour Paige, Demi Moore, Naomi Ackie, and Poppy Liu. The film follows professional shoplifters who target a fashion designer after she steals their work.

González said filming created strong personal bonds among the cast members. She said, “(We would) just share each other’s experiences, fears, insecurities, desires, dreams, the things we want to do next, motherhood. Taylour was pregnant when we did this movie. So it was very, very special because that experience of hearing her baby’s heartbeat and all that while we were filming, really tied us into a place of being aunties. We’re like the booster aunties.”

González also reflected on working with a cast largely made up of women of color and discussed the shared experiences many of them have faced in the entertainment industry. “It’s nice when you’re working with women alike that are minorities that we have overlapping parallels of our careers. We just were able to share, from Poppy to Naomi to even Demi, of being a woman that has grown up in the industry and this industry sometimes can treat you like if you’re aged out or you’re not young enough or if you’re a certain type of color, you’re just never good enough and the female experience itself,” she said.

She added that the production stood out because of its female-led environment and the opportunities it created for representation on screen. For the unversed, I Love Boosters is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 22.
