Supportive husband that he is, Adam Sandler turned up to support his wife Jackie at the premiere of her new film Office Romance this week. Unfortunately for Jackie, the internet quickly became more interested in what he was wearing than the actual movie itself. While Jennifer Lopez led the cast on the red carpet, Sandler showed up in the kind of casualwear we’ve all become accustomed to him wearing – even on a red carpet. The Waterboy and Uncut Gems actor wore an oversized orange New York Knicks hoodie, loose blue sweatpants and trainers, all of which looked chosen entirely on the basis that they were near the bed when he got out of it that morning.

Jackie, meanwhile, wore a glittery black mini dress with black tights and heels while posing for photos alongside her husband. The reaction online was pretty fierce because people apparently still expect Adam Sandler to be all dressed up at such events, despite the fact that the comedy superstar is known for his extremely relaxed persona and appearance. One Reddit user wrote: ‘I feel like it’s one thing when he’s promoting or doing his own projects but for his wife’s work you think he could throw on some khakis and a golf shirt at least lol.’ Another person said: ‘He always looks like he just turned thirteen and discovered his dad’s credit card.’ A third added that it ‘must be so cool to be a man and be allowed to look like c***.’
Not everybody was horrified though. Some people pointed out that this is basically how Sandler has dressed for most of his adult life – so he shouldn’t be expected to be any different on this occasion. One fan joked: ‘I mean, for Sandler that’s pretty much formal wear.’ Another wrote: ‘Its his shtick why are we surprised lol.’
The actor has spoken before about how comfortable Jackie is with his famously scruffy wardrobe choices. In an interview with Complex, he explained that other people used to question why he never dressed smarter while standing next to his glamorous wife. ‘My wife always was nice to me about my clothes,’ he said. ‘My wife would say, “He’s comfortable like that. Let him do that. Leave him alone.”’

The couple first met while filming the 1999 comedy Big Daddy. Jackie had a small role in the film as a waitress before the pair later married in 2003. Their wedding took place at Dick Clark’s oceanfront estate in Malibu with a guest list that reportedly included Jennifer Aniston, Jack Nicholson, Rob Schneider and Sharon Osbourne. Which is quite an impressive collection of names for one seating plan.

Adam later marked 22 years since they first met with an Instagram tribute that said: ‘22 years ago today we locked eyes and fell deep. Look forward to the next 22, young lady. Love you my forever girl.’ The pair now share two daughters, Sadie, 20, and Sunny, 17. Both have already appeared in several Netflix projects alongside their parents including Happy Gilmore 2, Leo and You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah. Sadie also stars in the comedy Roommates, which was produced through Adam’s company Happy Madison.

So even if their dad refuses to wear proper trousers at premieres, the family business seems to be doing pretty well regardless.
Hollywood audiences have been finding plenty to argue about this week, though not always for the reasons studios might prefer. A new Owen Wilson comedy is also facing criticism online after viewers questioned the decision to build part of its story around Travis Scott and a music festival setting…

New Owen Wilson film sparks backlash for ‘offensively tone deaf’ plot
Within minutes of the teaser dropping for new film Rolling Loud The Movie, fans noticed a glaring ‘tone deaf’ problem with the plot. Inspired by a true story, Owen Wilson stars as a dad who attempts to bond with his 13-year-old son by sneaking him into Rolling Loud festival. Netflix star Christian Convery stars as teen, Zion, who ends up going missing in the huge crowds as his dad frantically searches for him, getting into various scrapes along the way. Matt Rife, Christine Ko, Henry Winkler, Sexyy Red, and Ty Dolla Sign round out the cast, with Travis Scott taking a central role as the festival headliner.
The movie was partly filmed at the real 2024 Rolling Loud Miami festival, where the Franchise rapper did actually perform and brought the Cars icon on stage with him. Immediately after the trailer dropped, viewers pointed out that casting Travis, 35, as the headliner was in poor taste after the Astroworld Festival disaster.

Travis can be seen in the trailer hanging out with Owen’s character backstage, giving the panicked dad sage advice about being a father and finding his son. ‘This might be the most tone deaf casting we have ever seen, like almost offensively tone deaf, tbh,’ wrote MissSassbox on X. ‘The plot being about sneaking into a show to see the same man who’s show famously had a mass casualty incident after people snuck into his show…right..right……..’ added Emileeannf. ‘Idk if this is a good movie to have Travis Scott in,’ agreed 9primis, as more comments asked if they ‘forgot’ about Astroworld.

On November 5, 2021, a fatal crowd crush occurred at the Houston festival founded by Travis, who was also the headliner. Problems began the second the festival first at 10am, as the audience rushed forward with an unknown number of people breaching the gate. A security guard and four more people were injured at this time, with hundreds injured later during the performance crush.

Throughout the day, the 50,000-strong crowd breached areas, including VIP, and those at the barricades became injured in crushes. When the Sicko Mode rapper took to the stage, 20 minutes late, the crowd surged forward, resulting in a fatal crush despite fans chanting ‘stop the show’. 10 concertgoers died, with the youngest fatality a nine-year-old boy who died in hospital after falling from his dad’s shoulders and being placed in a coma.

His dad told ABC13 Houston at the time: ‘I could tell that he was damaged. I’m not ready to lose my boy at all. We still got a bunch of living to do … That’s my boy.’ The day after, Travis posted on X to say he was ‘absolutely devastated’ by what happened, claiming he was unaware of the ‘severity of the situation’.

Hundreds of lawsuits were filed against the rapper, Live Nation (whose studio is connected to the new film) and others involved in the event but it was later ruled that he would not be indicted. Live Nation settled the 10 wrongful death lawsuits and almost 100 other claims, including injuries and emotional distress, before going to trial in 2024.

Some viewers felt this film was ‘rubbing Astroworld in our faces’, and that the choice to include Travis was ‘genuinely bewildering’. Travis has addressed the Astroworld disaster, telling GQ in 2023 that he feels a ‘constant weight’ on his heart, adding: ‘I always think about it. Those fans were like my family.’ The rapper – who shares two children with Kylie Jenner – continued: ‘I was just overly devastated. It has its moments where it gets rough and…yeah. You just feel for those people. And their families.’

Astroworld Festival has never reopened, but Travis has gone on to headline several other festivals, including Rolling Loud in 2024, where Owen joined him on stage. A Live Nation Studios spokesperson told : ‘Rolling Loud is a fictional film inspired by the writer/director’s personal experience of attending a festival with his son. The movie was filmed on location at Rolling Loud Miami 2024, where Travis Scott headlined and appears as himself.’
