GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV Named Australia’s Best Electrified Ute
The GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV has been recognized as Australia’s best electrified ute in the 2026 CarExpert Choice Awards, marking its second consecutive win in this category. This achievement highlights the vehicle’s continued appeal and performance in the competitive ute market.
The award was decided among three finalists: the GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV itself, the BYD Shark 6, and the KGM Musso EV. The BYD Shark 6 is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) ute that recently received an updated powertrain with a more powerful turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and a 3500kg braked towing capacity similar to the GWM model. However, the voting for this year’s award took place before the launch of the new Performance flagship version of the BYD Shark 6.
Despite this, the GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV continues to stand out due to its mechanical four-wheel drive system, which includes up to three differential locks. This feature makes it a top choice for those who plan on engaging in serious off-roading.
