Rugby Transfers: Springboks Star Linked with Stormers, Etzebeth Speculation and Fineanganofo Update

Springboks Star Linked to Stormers Return

In the latest developments in rugby transfers, another Springboks star could be heading back to the Stormers. Damian de Allende, a key player for the South African national team, is reportedly considering a return to the Cape Town-based franchise.

De Allende previously played for the Stormers from 2013 to 2019 before moving overseas to play for teams such as the Kintetsu Liners, Panasonic Wild Knights, and Munster. He has been with the Wild Knights since 2022, but there are growing whispers that he might be looking to return to South Africa by 2027.

According to reports, a source mentioned that de Allende is “considering returning to South Africa in 2027.” Although formal discussions between the player and the Stormers have not yet begun, this potential move would align with the team’s ongoing recruitment strategy under their Project 2029 initiative.

The Stormers have already secured the returns of Cheslin Kolbe and Siya Kolisi, both of whom will join the squad ahead of the 2026/27 season. Additionally, Wilco Louw has also signed a deal with the franchise.

De Allende’s potential return would bring a wealth of experience and quality to the team, much like Kolbe and Kolisi. His past connection to the Stormers, as well as his history with other players, makes him an ideal candidate for the squad.

Beyond on-field contributions, the arrival of these high-profile Springboks players could also have a significant commercial impact. The Stormers’ CEO, Johan le Roux, expressed excitement about the potential return of stars like Kolbe and Kolisi.

“Our sponsors are very excited to see players of Siya and Cheslin’s calibre back in the Stormers squad,” le Roux said. “This class of superstars increases the commercial value for our sponsors through the attention they draw from around the world to the Stormers.”

Cheslin Kolbe’s Financial Sacrifices

Cheslin Kolbe’s return to the Stormers has been marked by several challenges, including financial sacrifices. According to reports, Kolbe faced multiple false starts before finally securing his move back to the Cape Town club.

Kolbe’s decision to return was not without its difficulties, as he had to make certain financial compromises to ensure his availability for the Stormers. His commitment to the team has been widely praised, with many believing it will significantly strengthen the squad.

Eben Etzebeth’s Potential Move

Another player linked to the Stormers is Eben Etzebeth, who previously represented the franchise with distinction. However, Etzebeth is currently contracted to the Sharks until June 2027, and the Durban-based team has made it clear they will not release him before the end of his contract.

A source told Rapport: “He can’t sign with anyone else without a release from the Sharks.” This means any potential move for Etzebeth would have to wait until his current deal expires.

Fehi Fineanganofo’s Situation

There has also been speculation regarding Fehi Fineanganofo, a rising star in Super Rugby Pacific. Various parties have denied claims that New Zealand Rugby has blocked his move from the Hurricanes to the Newcastle Red Bulls.

Reports initially suggested that NZ Rugby had intervened to prevent the young wing from joining the English side. However, the story has since been updated to include a rebuttal from NZ Rugby.

Fineanganofo signed a deal with the Red Bulls in January, and his impressive performance this season has sparked concerns about losing a potential Test superstar. Despite this, the Newcastle Red Bulls have confirmed that he will honor his contract.

Hurricanes head coach Clark Laidlaw also commented on the situation, stating: “We’ve made no secret we’d love him to be here if he can be here, but I genuinely haven’t heard anything along those lines.”
