Massive Recall Hits Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator Over Fire Risk
A significant recall has been issued for over a million Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator models globally, stemming from a potential wiring issue that could lead to a fire. The manufacturer is strongly advising owners of affected vehicles to park them away from buildings and other cars as a precautionary measure.
In the United States alone, a staggering 1,076,999 vehicles are implicated, covering model years from 2021 through to 2025. FCA US LLC, the American arm of Stellantis, confirmed that similar recalls are also underway in Canada and Mexico. Beyond North America, an additional 124,297 vehicles sold in various international markets are part of this global action. This brings the estimated total number of recalled units to a considerable 1,331,258 vehicles worldwide.
The root cause, as identified by an internal investigation, lies with an electrical connection problem in the wiring for the electric hydraulic power steering pump. FCA US LLC stated that in rare instances, this issue could cause overheating of combustible materials, creating a potential fire hazard.
“Out of an abundance of caution,” the company explained, “FCA US is taking this action and advising owners of these vehicles to park away from structures or other vehicles until the remedy is obtained.”
What Owners Need to Know
For owners in the US, the company will be initiating direct contact. The mandatory next step involves taking the affected Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator to an authorised dealership. Technicians will then conduct a thorough inspection of the electric hydraulic power steering pump and its wiring harness. If any issues are detected, the necessary repairs or replacements will be carried out to rectify the defect.
This latest recall is not the first time Jeep vehicles have faced significant safety actions due to potential fire risks.
A Pattern of Fire-Related Recalls
Last November, Jeep in the US initiated a recall affecting 228,221 Wrangler models and 91,844 Grand Cherokee vehicles. This earlier recall specifically targeted models equipped with the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder plug-in hybrid powertrain. It’s worth noting that only the Grand Cherokee variant with this powertrain, known locally as the Grand Cherokee 4xe Summit Reserve, was sold in Australia.
Similar to the current advisory, owners of those vehicles were also urged to park their Jeeps outdoors and at a safe distance from buildings and other vehicles while the defect, located within the battery pack, was addressed.
As of now, Jeep Australia has not yet issued a recall for the Grand Cherokee 4xe models sold locally. Between its launch and the end of 2025, approximately 122 examples of the Grand Cherokee 4xe were delivered to Australian customers.

The ongoing investigation into the power steering pump wiring issue highlights the complexities of modern automotive electrical systems and the importance of proactive safety measures. While the number of vehicles affected is substantial, the manufacturer’s swift action and clear advisories aim to mitigate any potential risks to owners and the public.
For those who own a Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator from the 2021-2025 model years, staying informed and following the manufacturer’s guidance is crucial. The process of inspection and potential repair is designed to ensure the long-term safety and reliability of these popular off-road vehicles.
