Call for clarity on Foran’s future after Manly’s revival

Kieran Foran’s Journey to Becoming Manly’s Head Coach

Kieran Foran has been given a permanent role as the head coach of the Manly Sea Eagles, marking a significant milestone in his career. The club announced on Tuesday that Foran signed a three-year contract, ensuring he will remain at Brookvale Oval until the end of 2029. This decision comes after a remarkable turnaround in the team’s performance under his leadership.

Foran, who retired from playing in November last year, returned to Manly as an assistant coach during the summer. However, his journey to becoming head coach began when Anthony Seibold was dismissed in late March. At that point, Foran was appointed as the interim coach, and despite initial doubts about his ability to handle such a high-pressure role, he quickly proved himself.

A Strong Start to Coaching

The former Kiwis star faced skepticism early on, with many questioning whether he could transition successfully from player to coach so soon after retiring. However, his strong start to coaching solidified his position as the only genuine candidate for the head coach role.

In a statement, Foran expressed his deep connection to the club:

“I’m truly honoured to be the head coach of a club that means so much to me, a club that has played a significant part in not just my footy career but my entire life. I care deeply about this club, and I want what’s best for everyone involved in it. I will do everything within my power to make sure it’s a success.”

He also highlighted the importance of working with the players:

“I have really enjoyed helping them build belief over the past few months.”

A Remarkable Turnaround

Under Foran’s guidance, the Sea Eagles have shown impressive results. After starting the season with a 0-3 record, the team has since won seven of their nine games. Manly currently sits fifth in the standings ahead of their upcoming match against South Sydney.

What makes this achievement even more impressive is the fact that the team has been without star fullback Tom Trbojevic for the last month. Despite this challenge, Foran has managed to maintain the team’s momentum and morale.

Fans have taken to calling the team’s style of play “Fozball,” a nod to Foran’s influence on the game.

A New Chapter for Manly

Manly chairman Scott Penn praised Foran’s impact on the club:

“We’ve been impressed with everything Kieran has done since taking on the interim role and are delighted to appoint him for the next three years. The belief and passion he has instilled in the playing group has more than delivered on our expectations.”

Penn also highlighted Foran’s deep connection to the club, his extensive playing experience, and his leadership qualities. He added:

“Kieran knows first-hand what it takes to bring the Sea Eagles continued success. We are focused on competing for premierships and are confident that he will lead the team into the next chapter.”

Looking Ahead

With Foran at the helm, the Sea Eagles are looking to build on their recent success and aim for greater achievements in the coming seasons. His appointment marks a new era for the club, one that is filled with optimism and determination.
