Knicks’ NBA Finals Tickets vs Super Bowl: Australia’s Costliest Sports Events

The Rise of NBA Finals Ticket Prices at Madison Square Garden

Madison Square Garden has always been a hub for major sporting events, but this year it is taking center stage in the NBA Finals. With the New York Knicks making significant progress toward a championship, the excitement surrounding the games has reached new heights. Fans are not only eager to witness history but are also willing to pay exorbitant prices for tickets, especially for home games.

The demand for tickets has driven resale prices to unprecedented levels. For Game 3 of the NBA Finals, the cheapest ticket available on the resale market was just under $7,000, while the most expensive were priced over $75,000. One ticket even had a price tag of $97,514. Although these high prices may not all be realized, they clearly indicate that fans are prepared to spend heavily for the chance to attend what could be a historic event.

Game 4, which could potentially be a clincher if the Knicks win Game 3, is even more expensive. The cheapest tickets on the resale market for Game 4 are over $13,000, with dozens of tickets listed at $100,000 or higher. Even if the Knicks lose Game 3, the prices for Game 4 are unlikely to drop significantly, as the game will still be highly anticipated.

Comparing NBA Finals Ticket Prices to Other Major Sporting Events

When compared to other major sporting events, the prices for NBA Finals tickets at Madison Square Garden are among the highest. Here’s a breakdown of some of the most expensive and affordable tickets for recent sporting events:

This is pricier than most sporting events, with the 2025 Wimbledon Final being the only recent major event that exceeds the NBA Finals games at MSG.

Other High-Profile Sporting Events and Their Ticket Prices

Stanley Cup Final

Stanley Cup Final tickets are not as expensive as NBA Finals tickets, but they are still rising. The get-in price for each game between the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights is more than $600, with the average resale ticket for Game 1 in Raleigh sitting at $2,300.

Champions League Final

The average ticket price for the Champions League Final between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain in 2026 was $348, according to SeatPick. Despite the lower price, more than 61,000 people attended the match in Budapest, which is a long way from both clubs’ homes.

Final Four

Tickets for the 2026 Men’s Final Four averaged $1,055 on the resale market, according to SeatGeek. Demand reportedly dropped after Duke was eliminated by UConn in the Elite Eight, but an influx of Illinois and Michigan fans pushed the average price past $1,000 despite the games being played in an NFL stadium with a capacity of more than 72,000.

Super Bowl

The Super Bowl is typically the most expensive sporting event in the U.S., but with an average price of $7,722 to watch the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots in 2026, it is still more affordable than the average NBA Finals ticket at MSG. However, Levi’s Stadium welcomed more than 70,000 fans, which could have impacted the pricing.

World Series

The average World Series ticket price for Game 7 between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers in 2025 was $2,524, according to The Athletic. While the average price for Game 6 was under $2,000, demand was higher for the final game, though it still doesn’t come close to the demand for NBA Finals games.

Wimbledon Final

Wimbledon Centre Court holds less than 15,000 fans and is often a celebrity haven during the men’s singles final. The 2025 average price for the final, when converted from Euros, actually beat the NBA Finals. Fans paid an average of about $20,297 to watch Carlos Alcaraz face Jannik Sinner, with limited resale tickets ranging from about $19,000 to more than $22,000.

U.S. Open (Golf)

U.S. Open tickets at Oakmont Country Club averaged $529 in 2025, according to SeatGeek data, in an increase from 2024. Oakmont reportedly allowed about 30,000 fans per day, more than an NBA or NHL arena but less than what an MLB or NFL stadium can hold.

World Cup Final

While FIFA separates tickets by four categories, the average price between those categories for the 2022 World Cup Final in Lusail, Qatar, was $855. That figure is expected to be considerably higher in the United States in 2026, but given the capacity of MetLife Stadium, it will have a very hard time reaching the prices of NBA Finals tickets in New York.
