Exclusive: Melanie C Shares Which Spice Girl Feels Like a Sister and Who Would ‘Kill for You’

Melanie C’s New Album and Return to the Spotlight

Melanie C, one of the most iconic members of the Spice Girls, is proving that age is just a number. At 52, she’s not slowing down but instead working harder than ever. From her recent return as a coach on The Voice Australia to the release of her new album Sweat, Melanie C continues to captivate fans with her energy and creativity.

Sweat has been making waves, not only for its musical quality but also for the renewed speculation about a potential Spice Girls reunion. In an interview, Melanie C shared her thoughts on the topic: “I’d say that we’re probably talking more now than ever. It’s so precious to us that we just want to do the right thing, and we all want to feel comfortable doing it.” This sentiment reflects the deep bond between the Spice Girls, which has endured despite their individual paths after the band split in 2000.

A Nostalgic Sound Inspired by Youth

What makes Sweat unique is its inspiration from Melanie C’s teenage years before the Spice Girls. The album channels the raw energy of breakbeats and freedom, reminiscent of the Spanish rave scene she experienced in the early ’90s. This connection to her past adds a layer of authenticity to the music, making it more than just a collection of songs—it’s a journey through her personal history.

Melanie C’s Growing Connection with Australia

As Sporty Spice, Melanie C is embracing her growing love for Australia. Her recent music video for the album’s title track, Sweat, features her working out on a spin bike while wearing heels and showcasing Australian fitness brand Bondi Active. This collaboration highlights her deepening ties to the country.

Melanie C has spent a significant amount of time in Australia since beginning a relationship with model and scriptwriter Chris Dingwall in 2023. She humorously notes that she’s picked up some of his Aussie slang. “It’s funny, my partner’s Australian, and he calls places joints, like, ‘that joint’ or ‘this joint’ and calling girls ‘chicks’. My daughter and I, we do laugh often at the little Australianisms that come out of his mouth.”

Touring Australia and Hopes for a Spice Girls Reunion

Melanie C is set to tour her new album across Australia in November. Fans are hoping this tour might finally bring about a long-awaited Spice Girls performance, as the band has never performed together in the country. With the 25th anniversary of their hit song Wannabe approaching in July, many are optimistic that this year could be the one.

“I hope so,” Melanie C says when asked about a possible reunion. “I love it here, and I always feel super welcome. It feels like a second home to me.”

The Spice Girls’ Lasting Bonds

Despite their unconventional start, the Spice Girls have maintained strong friendships over the years. Melanie C shares insights into her relationships with each of her bandmates. “Myself and Geri, we used to spend a lot of time together because I would do extra work with her choreography. We would spend the most time in the studio together, and we have a lot of mutual respect creatively.”

She describes her friendship with Emma as especially close. “Em and I, we love hanging out together. She’s my closest friend within the band, she’s like a sister.” Meanwhile, Victoria remains a trusted advisor. “With Victoria, she’s always there and always great for advice. We all respect what she’s achieved.”

When it comes to Melanie (the other Melanie), she jokes, “Well, she is probably the one who would definitely kill for you.”
