Man United’s Summer Signee Snatched from Holiday for Brazil Call-Up

Manchester United’s New Signee Ederson Joins Brazil’s World Cup Squad

Manchester United fans are in for an early glimpse of their new signing, Ederson, as he has been called up to Brazil’s World Cup squad. The 26-year-old right-back will officially join the Red Devils in July after a £39 million transfer from Italian side Atalanta. However, his summer plans have taken an unexpected turn as he now focuses on representing Brazil in the upcoming tournament.

Ederson was initially set to enjoy a free summer before making the move to England. But with his inclusion in the World Cup squad, he had to cut his holiday short in his hometown of Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. His schedule has been packed with events, including attending the wedding of his footballer friend Romulo on Saturday night and celebrating his 26th birthday on Monday.

The right back sustained a left thigh injury during the first half of Brazil’s 2-1 friendly win over Egypt on Saturday in Cleveland. An MRI scan revealed a muscle injury to the adductor muscle in his left thigh. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) released a statement expressing regret over the injury, noting that Wesley is a player much loved by the squad and will always be considered part of the team as they aim for their sixth World Cup title.

Brazil’s World Cup campaign begins on June 13 when they face Morocco at 11pm BST in Group C. They will then take on Haiti on June 20 at 1.30am BST and Scotland on June 24 at 11pm BST.

Once Ederson joins Manchester United after the World Cup, he will sign a four-year contract with the club. Head coach Michael Carrick is in the process of overhauling the midfield, and Ederson’s arrival is expected to strengthen the team’s defensive options.

The deal, finalised on Tuesday afternoon, includes an initial fee of £34 million to Atalanta, with the remaining amount in add-ons. United have been eager to conclude the transfer for Ederson early, and a delegation was sent to Italy to conduct discussions not only for the 26-year-old but also for other potential signings.

The club’s summer transfer strategy includes securing at least two midfielders, a forward, and competition in full-back and goalkeeper positions. With Ederson’s arrival, Manchester United is taking significant steps towards building a stronger squad for the upcoming season.
