West Indies ODI Squad Announced for Crucial Series Against Sri Lanka
The West Indies have unveiled a 15-member squad for their upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka, which will be held at Sabina Park in Jamaica from June 3 to June 8. Captain Shai Hope will continue to lead the team, and the squad has been strengthened by the return of several key players just in time for this important series.
Key Returns and Inclusions
Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph is making his return to the ODI lineup for the first time since the Australia tour of the Caribbean last year. He has come back after recovering from a back injury that kept him out since July 2025. His inclusion adds much-needed pace to the bowling attack.
Spinner Gudakesh Motie is also back in the mix after missing the New Zealand tour last November. His experience and ability to take wickets in different conditions make him a vital part of the squad.
Pace bowlers Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales have retained their spots in the squad. Cricket West Indies has emphasized that the workloads of all three fast bowlers will be managed carefully to ensure they remain fit throughout the series.
Another exciting addition is Shimron Hetmyer, who has been brought back into the ODI setup following a standout performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year. The left-handed batter scored 248 runs during the tournament, boasting an average of 41.33 and an impressive strike rate of 186.46. Hetmyer last played ODI cricket against England in June 2025 and missed subsequent series against Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. He’s expected to join the squad ahead of the third ODI.
Players Not Selected
Alick Athanaze, Johann Layne, Khary Pierre, and Romario Shepherd are the players who won’t be part of the squad that toured New Zealand late last year. Head coach Daren Sammy is optimistic that the team’s recent success at home will give them the confidence they need to face a disciplined Sri Lankan side.
