Kieran Foran Appointed as Full-Time Head Coach of Manly Sea Eagles
The Manly Sea Eagles have announced that club legend Kieran Foran will take on the role of full-time head coach for a three-year term. This decision marks a significant milestone in the club’s journey, as Foran steps into the leadership position following a challenging start to the season.
Foran took over as interim coach after Anthony Seibold was relieved of his duties due to a difficult opening month. The team suffered three consecutive losses at Brookvale, followed by a bye, which led to a period of uncertainty. However, under Foran’s guidance, the Sea Eagles have transformed into a more cohesive and competitive side, securing seven wins from nine games during his tenure.
Despite being retired for only a short time, Foran was thrust into the role for the first match of round 5 against the Dolphins. His ability to lead the team effectively, even when the squad looked struggling early on, has demonstrated his potential as an elite coach.
Manly Chairman Scott Penn expressed his confidence in Foran’s capabilities and praised his impact on the team. “We’ve been impressed with everything Kieran has done since taking on the interim role and are delighted to appoint him for the next three years,” said Penn. “The belief and passion he has instilled in the playing group has more than delivered on our expectations.”
Foran’s deep connection to the club, combined with his extensive playing experience and leadership qualities, makes him a strong candidate to guide the Sea Eagles into the future. Penn emphasized that the club is focused on competing for premierships and believes Foran understands what it takes to achieve success.
A New Chapter for the Sea Eagles
Foran has shown a strong commitment to bringing out the best in his players and has received overwhelming support from the Sea Eagles community since taking on the coaching role in March. “I’m truly honoured to be the head coach of a club that means so much to me,” said Foran. “It has played a significant part in not just my football career but my entire life.”
He added, “I care deeply about this club, and I want what’s best for everyone involved in it. I will do everything within my power to make sure it’s a success.” Foran also highlighted the positive experiences he has had working with the players and staff, stating, “It’s been wonderful working with this group of players over the past few months and helping them to build belief is something I have really enjoyed.”
The support from members and fans has been a major source of motivation for Foran. “I feel absolutely loved and supported by all our members and fans. It makes you want to bounce out of bed each and every morning, wanting to make our community proud.”
A Legacy Extended
With his future settled, Foran is now focused on leading the Sea Eagles to success. He has played 196 games in the maroon and white across two stints at the club, and his appointment as head coach will extend his legacy on the Northern Beaches until 2029.
The club is set to celebrate Foran’s new role by renaming their home ground, Brookvale, to ‘Foz Pines Park’ for their upcoming match against South Sydney. This gesture highlights the significance of Foran’s contribution to the team and the community.
As the Sea Eagles prepare to face the South Sydney Rabbitohs at home this Thursday night, the focus is on maintaining the momentum that has been built under Foran’s leadership. With his vision and determination, the club is poised for a promising season ahead.
